UEFA Champions League: Liverpool vs Inter Milan Player Ratings as Inter manage a 1-0 win, but Liverpool go through on 2-1 aggregate

Liverpool vs Inter Milan: Liverpool hosted Inter at Anfield in the 2nd Leg of the Round of 16 of the Champions League.

Inter played their hearts out from the start at Anfield. First half was goal less, but second half saw Inter scoring on the back of a Lautaro Martinez banger from outside the box. However, Inter lost Alexis Sanchez a couple of minutes later as he was sent off being booked twice. This incident changed the complexion of the game and Liverpool dug out an indeed 1-0 bittersweet defeat.

Alisson Becker (6/10): Alisson has had better games than this as he could not keep a clean sheet in Anfield despite facing just a few shots.

Trent Alexander-Arnold (8.5/10): The right-back once again was adjudged the man of the match for his performance. He created 5 chances in the game, but none of them were converted to a goal.

Joel Matip (7.2/10): Matip was rugged but effective in defence. His header from a corner hit the crossbar in the first half.

Virgil van Dijk (6.9/10): van Dijk’s positioning was good throughout the game, triggering a few offsides for the visiting team. He could have closed down Martinez better when the Inter number 10 took the shot to score.

Andy Robertson (6.8/10): Robertson’s crossing was below his usual standards on the night. But he did his defensive work pretty well.

Curtis Jones (6.9/10): Jones had a decent game, but could not provide anything substantial. He was subbed off in the second half.

Fabinho (7.2/10): Fabinho was at his usual in the midfield playing as the holding midfielder for the Reds. He made important interceptions and recovered the ball when not in possession.

Thiago (6.8/10): Thiago was pretty okay in the midfield. He drew a couple of fouls but could not flourish his usual creativity.

Mohamed Salah (7.6/10): Salah had one of those nights where nothing goes your way. He hit the woodwork twice in his 3 shots and was denied goal.

Diogo Jota (6.1/10): Jota did not have a single shot in the match. He was replaced by Diaz in the dying minutes of the game.

Sadio Mane (6.4/10): Mane had the least touches in the 90 minutes and was not effective in front of goal.

Jordan Henderson (6.3/10): Henderson orchestrated the midfield well coming on and watched Liverpool through.

Naby Keita (6/10): Keita came in to solidify the midfield and hold the aggregate lead of Liverpool and did a good job.

Samir Handanovic (7.1/10): Handanovic faced a couple of shots, but he was clinical and did not give Liverpool any goals.

Milan Skriniar (7.3/10): Skriniar switched from the right side of the back 3 to the center after de Vrij was subbed. He made important blocks in the box to keep a clean sheet.

Stefan de Vrij (6.8/10): de Vrij had a decent match playing in the middle of the back 3. He was replaced by D’Ambrosio at halftime.

Alessandro Bastoni (7.1/10): Bastoni had a good defensive game with many tackles and clearances. He was good in the air as well.

Denzel Dumfries (6.4/10): Dumfries had an average match at right-wing back. He was subbed off late in the second half.

Arturo Vidal (7.9/10): The veteran midfielder was sliding in with tackles and made a crucial block in the final minutes. His work rate in the match was immaculate.

Marcelo Brozovic (7.5/10): Brozovic had a good match as he played the ball well from Inter’s half. His defensive work was appreciated as well.

Hakan Calhanoglu (7.3/10): Calhanoglu had a reasonable game in the middle. He took a couple of shots and was creative in his passing.

Ivan Perisic (7.6/10): Perisic had an amazing game. He played at the left wing-back position and was always on the lookout to go forward.

Alexis Sanchez (6.8/10): Sanchez provided the assist to Martinez’s goal. He was sent off after getting booked twice for dangerous tackles.

Lautaro Martinez (7.5/10): Martinez had a quiet game till the 62nd minute when he scored a scorcher from outside the box. The goal was his only shot on target.
