Premier League: Liverpool vs Watford Player ratings as the Reds win their tenth game in a row 2-0

Liverpool vs Watford: After an easy 2-0 win over Watford in Saturday’s early kick-off, Liverpool ascended to the top of the Premier League table, albeit momentarily.
The Reds weren’t at their best at Anfield, with Watford keeping the game close throughout, but the irrepressible Diogo Jota broke the deadlock after 22 minutes.

Liverpool vs Watford Player Ratings

Liverpool:

Alisson – (7/10): Just a minute before Liverpool opened the score, he made a crucial save from Juraj Kucka, proving his worth in one-on-one situations.

Joe Gomez – (8/10): Instead of the team’s major creator, he did his best Trent Alexander-Arnold impression down the right side. Had been making regular runs forward and supplied the cross for Jota’s opening, which was directed to the near post where the Portuguese had made his run.

Joel Matip – (7/10): More disturbed than his centre-back partner, notably when Kucka found a way in behind the defence on that side, and Joao Pedro’s chance came in the same area.

Virgil van Dijk – (7/10): More of the same from the best defender on the planet. On one occasion, I even managed to brush aside Ismalia Sarr.

Andy Robertson – (7/10): On his comeback after missing the Reds’ last match due to Covid, the left-back put forth a typical hardworking display, with some useful contributions in the attack. He did some terrific recovery defending as well, and his speed down the left side in both ways is crucial.

Jordan Henderson – (5/10): Everyone else in midfield had some sloppy moments, including the captain, who finished the game with a pass success rate of less than 80% after starting in the No. 6 position before changing to the right-sided No. 8.

Curtis Jones – (5/10): With the competition heating up, he would have wanted to have had a better opportunity in the starting XI, but despite those good situations he found himself in, he was unable to make an impact on the game.

Thiago – (8/10): Liverpool’s finest player was at the top of his game, particularly in the first half, creating chances in attack and putting a foot in when needed in defence.

Mohamed Salah – (6/10): As the Liverpool bus went through a fresh painting representing the Egyptian King on the route to Anfield, it will no doubt have cheered him up after his recent disappointments with his national team.

Roberto Firmino – (7/10): He took up good positions, like many of his colleagues, but wasn’t always able to influence the game from them. He should have taken advantage of one particular break in the second half, but the Brazilian put up a hard-working and excellent effort overall.

Diogo Jota – (7/10): In recent outings for Portugal and Liverpool, he has scored four goals in five games. Soon after, he had an opportunity to add to his tally, but Ben Foster stopped his attempt from a tight angle. Henderson desired the pass, but Jota is just interested in scoring goals.

Substitutes:

Fabinho – (7/10): To secure the victory, he scored a confident penalty in front of the Kop.

Sadio Mane – N/A: For the last ten minutes, he operated on the right wing, giving Watford defenders another pacy threat to worry about.

James Milner – N/A: Missed the chance to the penalty by only a few seconds.

Watford:

Ben Foster – (4.5/10): To be fair, he didn’t look too sharp for Liverpool’s first goal, but it was a fantastic cross. Later in the first half, he made a fantastic save from Diogo Jota.

Hassane Kamara – (6.5/10): He would have like to see Trent Alexander-Arnold leave the team today, but Joe Gomez got the better of him to set up Jota for the game’s first pitch. However, he handled Mo Salah admirably.

Samir – (7/10): Made a few big tackles and never appeared out of place in the face of a tough opponent. Was far better than the score of 2-0 suggests.

Christian Kabasele – (6/10): He appeared to be in good shape, maintaining his position in the team. Early in the second half, he made a wonderful headed clearing from another Gomez cross. I was mostly unaffected.

Kiko Femenia – (6/10): When the attacker slid centre, it was difficult to keep sight of Diogo Jota. But he did his part and remained steady for the majority of the day.

Imran Louza – (6/10): He was good on the ball and made some good tackles as usual, but Thiago across him showed him how to play the job at a higher level. For the last 15 minutes or so, I was subbed.

Moussa Sissoko – (6/10): He put in long hours for the team, attempting to push the opposition whenever he could. It’s a shame he didn’t get anything in return for his efforts.

Juraj Kucka – (3/10): He had his greatest game for the ‘Orns against Southampton and is off to a good start here. He subsequently gave away an egregious penalty, thereby ending any chances of a point.

Ismaila Sarr – (5/10): He returned to the team today after suffering an injury against Manchester United, but he looked rusty at times and struggled to get involved as the game progressed.

Joao Pedro – (5.5/10): At times, he displayed good footwork, and he did brilliantly to bring Kucka in on goal seconds before Liverpool scored. Later, he had a great chance to equalise but failed to hit the target.

Cucho Hernandez – (5.5/10): He deserved to start after a brace against the Saints. He was animated, but he didn’t make a significant difference that day.
