A recent report from Football Insider has stated that Liverpool might be willing to sell their star striker, Darwin Nunez. A transfer fee of £50-60 million in the ongoing January transfer window or in the summer transfer window could finalize the deal. However, whether they go on to sell him in January will depend on their capability to find a worthy player to replace him.

Nunez has managed to score just four goals in 23 matches across all competitions so far this season. This remains subpar for a striker that came as part of a big-money move. Hence, the player has faced a lot of criticism for his underwhelming performances. There are a lot of doubts about the future of the Uruguayan at Anfield, and it remains to be seen what happens with him.

On Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke confirmed the interest of Newcastle United towards the player. However, the move to Newcastle only takes place if star forward
Alexander Isak leaves the club with various high-profile clubs interested. As such, the move to Newcastle might not take place this January. However, Liverpool might sell Nunez to other clubs.

Arne Slot has not picked Nunez in the starting lineup for the club, and players like Diogo Jota, Cody Gakpo, and Luis Diaz have been preferred by the manager. In their recent encounter against Manchester United, Nunez came off the bench, but couldn’t impact the game. Moreover, this has called into doubt Nunez’s importance in the club’s scheme of things and his long-term future at Anfield.

Why Liverpool want to sell Darwin Nunez?

The Uruguayan striker has not been clinical in front of the goal, and this has not pleased the new manager at all. Clubs like AC Milan have been interested in Nunez. The player even went on to like a post on social media that linked him to AC Milan. His action has triggered more rumors about his future at Liverpool.

The Reds will look to offload the player if they get any amount close to the fee stated above. They signed him from Benfica for a fee close to £85 million. However, given his goal-scoring exploits and situation in the club, it is not surprising that any club would be willing to pay a fee even close to the valuation.

The Reds want to reduce their losses and can agree to sell Uruguayan for a fee of £50 million. Even if any club goes on to pay that amount, it will please the management at Liverpool. The amount will then be used by the club to find a worthy replacement who can fire in front of the goal consistently.

The Reds need to find good defenders as the future of Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold are not sure with the club. Both of the player’s contracts expire in the summer, and they have yet to agree on a new contract with the club.
