Liverpool’s road to Istanbul revealed and it is eerily similar to their 2004/05 title winning campaign. Maybe lightning can strike twice?

Liverpool progressed to the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League this season after defeating RB Leipzig 4-0 on aggregate in the Last 16. In today’s draw they were drawn against Real Madrid while Manchester City, Chelsea and Bayern Munich got Borussia Dortmund, Porto and Paris Saint-Germain respectively. This season’s quarterfinals is bound to be massively entertaining.
Chelsea in the semi-final and Istanbul to be the venue of the final
Ataturk Stadium was the venue on the fateful day Liverpool scored 3 past AC Milan to mount a comeback for the ages. Steven Gerrard, Vladmir Smicer and Xabi Alonso were heroes on the day as Liverpool came back from certain death for an unlikely win against all odds. Previously to the final, Liverpool had played against Chelsea in the semi-final.
A Luis Garcia ghost goal was enough for Liverpool to progress to the finals, and this season’s Champions League could see Liverpool and Chelsea go against each other. The team who wins quarterfinal 2 (FC Porto v Chelsea) and quarterfinal 4 (Real Madrid v Liverpool) will be the ones to play in semi-final 2. That gives a chance for one of the 2004/05 season semi-final to happen.
Of course, this is also contingent on the fact that Chelsea and Liverpool will have to defeat Porto and Real Madrid respectively.
