Liverpool’s title hopes over after 1-3 defeat against rivals Leicester
Liverpool lost 3-1 against Leicester at King Power and Klopp conceded that his side’s title hopes are all but over. All 3 Leicester goals came in the last 15 minutes as they snatched victory from the current title holders.
Alisson’s howler cost Liverpool the lead and the side never really recuperated from the blow. Salah gave Liverpool the lead in the 2nd half as Madisson, Vardy and Barnes scored for Leicester.
Klopp conceded that Liverpool’s title hopes are over
The defeat left Liverpool 10 points adrift of league leaders Manchester City, who have 2 games in hand. Jurgen Klopp handed a Premier league debut to Ozan Kabak, the recently signed centre-back.
The debutant was left high and dry by Alisson, when the goalkeeper came out and made a mess of an easy clearance paving the way for Vardy’s goal.
Klopp suggested that the lack of communication came from the Reds No.1 failing to help his more inexperienced teammate.
He said: “We were confident again, Ali was confident, he played a super game and made super saves and that’s all fine.
“But in that moment, maybe because of last week and who knows, he comes out. I didn’t hear him shouting and to be honest I’m not sure he said something or not.
Klopp also said that Liverpool’s hopes of retaining the title are already over as he spoke to reporters after the defeat.
“Yes. I can’t believe, but yes. I don’t think we can close the gap this year, to be honest. We have to win football games, and a large part of our game today was very good.”
Jurgen Klopp will expect an improved performance from his players for their mid-week Champions league fixture against Leipzig. The Champions league is their only shot at silverware this season and Liverpool must pull their socks up for that fixture.
