Liverpool’s unbeaten record at Anfield at stake as Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham come knocking at the doors
When many teams have tried and failed to defeat Liverpool at Anfield in the Premier League Jose Mourinho is seriously the one person who can do it

Truth be said, this is the biggest challenge Liverpool have faced this season. Jose Mourinho has revitalised this Tottenham squad and made some intelligent signings to benefit the side. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has been the bargain of the season for them as he has proved to be so vital to them. Tanguy Ndombele, Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min have become levels better under Mourinho and the partnership between the latter two is very vital to the team.

Liverpool will need to be defensively at their best

Liverpool cannot afford to lose concentration at any point in the game as Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min can punish them. The two of them combined devastatingly and put Arsenal to the sword with two sensational goals. Much lies in how Liverpool don’t allow them to score a goal and draw them forward and hit them on the counter. But that is exactly what Mourinho does- he sets his team to be defensively strong and hit them on the counter with Kane and Son.

Liverpool’s strong suit would be to suffocate Tottenham in the middle of the park and cut off supply to their forwards. This is a battle that will be won in the middle of the park and Liverpool will need to be at their best. It is expected that Henderson will drop to centre-back if Joel Matip doesn’t recover in time, but it is obvious that the former is needed in the middle. He will need to protect young Curtis Jones and cover the team too along with Georginio Wijnaldum.

Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane need to turn up today to ease the burden on the midfield of Liverpool. They need to take things in their hand and score goals in order to put more pressure on Tottenham to reply and strike at the counter. Much rests in their shoulder for Liverpool to walk out of Anfield with three points and the first position on the table.

This could very well be a treat for the eyes or a dead boring slugfest depending on Jose Mourinho’s mood. He has proven to be the villain for Liverpool back in 2014 when he derailed their title charge and he could very well be now. Liverpool is aiming to surpass Chelsea’s unbeaten home record of 86 matches and are currently are at 65. Jose Mourinho will want to defeat Liverpool today as the 86 match unbeaten record was set when he the manager of Chelsea.
