Last year is over, to be honest. We celebrated, we had a good time, it’s been an awesome summer. I’ve been having a great summer, by the way, but it’s over with, and now it’s back to work. Now we got the target on our back, everybody is trying to come after us, and I'm like, 'Come on.' It's back to work and I'm looking forward to next season.

Last season was impressive for the star guard as he averaged 23.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 3.6 assists, and equally excelled in the playoffs, winning both Eastern Conference and NBA Finals MVP. Jason Kidd clarifies Jaylen Brown comments, says media misinterpreted compliment

Dallas Mavericks coach Jason Kidd had sparked controversy during the 2024 NBA Finals where he called his star guard Jaylen Brown the best player on the Boston Celtics. In response to the outrage it caused, he denied accusations that he was trying to drive a wedge between Brown and teammate Jayson Tatum.

In a recent interview with NBC Sports Bay Area, he reiterated that he meant no harm when he made the comments. He also pointed to Brown’s Eastern Conference Finals MVP award and impressive performance during the playoffs as evidence of his praise.

He was playing the best, I think, at the time. Some took it as, I was trying to start something. But he had just won the Eastern Conference MVP, and then he actually ended up winning the MVP in the Finals. So I don't know if I was wrong. But as we know, media can sometimes take it as, I was trying to start something between Jayson and Jaylen.
Jason Kidd told NBC Sports Bay Area

Despite the controversy, there is no bad blood between Kidd and Brown, as they recently teamed up to launch a non-profit in Oakland. The Mavericks will face the Celtics again in January 2025 and will be seeking revenge for their NBA Finals loss.
