“I locked him out the house” Kevin Durant recalls hilariously losing 1v1 against dad
Suns star Kevin Durant shared a hilarious moment with the reporters involving his dad after a top-notch performance against the Cavs.

Kevin Durant
It was a story from his early years that made people grin the most, even as Kevin Durant added another chapter to his illustrious NBA career. This came with a 42-point masterpiece versus the Cleveland Cavaliers. Durant opened up on his first basketball memories during the postgame news conference on Friday night after destroying one of the league’s best defenses.
After the Phoenix Suns’ matchup against the Cavs, the reporters sat down with Durant in the post-game conference. There, Durant opened up on a hilarious moment that included his dad. The 36-year-old Durant remembered the last time he lost a one-on-one match to his father.
I was in seventh grade. I was 11 years old, in the driveway. After he scored the final point and I locked him out the house. That was the last time. 20-something years ago.

It’s a great instance of teenage annoyance and gloom. His father had no idea that the child he had beaten in the driveway that day would go on to become one of the NBA’s best scorers. Durant has dedicated his professional life to basketball in the most effective manner imaginable: by dominating the court every single night.
That was evident on Friday when Durant led the Suns to a 123-112 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers with 42 points, six rebounds, and eight assists on 17-of-29 shooting (4-of-9 from outside the arc).
In addition, he became only the fourth player in NBA history to have multiple 40-point performances in their 17th season or later with his effort, which was his second 40-point performance of the season.
Kevin Durant has a unique bond with his dad Wayne Pratt
Growing up, Kevin Durant didn’t have the ideal relationship with his father. The NBA star’s father, Wayne Pratt, abandoned Durant and his family while the future Finals MVP was only a year old. Pratt came and went from Durant’s life, but they eventually made up. Pratt now plays a significant role in Durant’s business and career choices.
It was Pratt who chose to write a letter to his son, while other players chose to use social media to honor their fathers and the national day of recognition. Pratt expressed his gratitude for having Durant as a son and for having made amends with him in a post on ‘The Undefeated.’
So today, this Father’s Day, I celebrate you, Kev. Not because you are a great basketball player, but because you are a GREATER son. Today isn’t about me. It’s about us and what we’ve accomplished through faith and love. I love you Kev.

Now, Pratt is Durant’s agent and handles all the off-the-court matters for his son. Interestingly. Durant had revealed a story regarding his dad and the New York Knicks in the past. The star had stated how badly his dad wanted him to join the Knicks, but he opted against it and chose to sign for the Brooklyn Nets instead.
Can Kevin Durant lead the Phoenix Suns to the NBA 2025 Playoffs?
The Suns, led by Kevin Durant, are now 34-37 and tied alongside the Dallas Mavericks for the tenth and last Western play-in berth. The Suns are regaining their form just in time, with Devin Booker providing a nice complement to Durant’s rhythm.
However, their goal of qualifying for the postseason is quite challenging. With two games against the reigning champions, the Boston Celtics, one against the top-seeded Oklahoma City Thunder, and additional games against the Houston Rockets, Golden State Warriors, and New York Knicks, the Suns have the most difficult remaining schedule in the NBA.

Nevertheless, this season, KD is averaging 26.6 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 4.4 assists on 52.8% shooting, demonstrating that he is one of the most dangerous basketball players while being 36 years old. If he were to continue his form throughout the next few games, the Suns would likely book a play-in berth for the NBA Playoffs.
It’s also important to note that, this may be Durant’s final season with the Suns, with reports emerging he may leave the franchise in the off-season. There are rumors about him joining the Rockets next year. Hence, the Suns fans will be hoping for one final push from the 36-year-old this year.
