Controversy arose at the Olympic Games yesterday when Angela Carini quit her welterweight RO16 against Imane Khelif. Carini claimed that she ‘refused’ to continue as her opponent had failed a gender eligibility test in 2023. Moreover, the Italian said that Khelif’s punches were the hardest she had faced in her career. Following this incident, Logan Paul took to X to express his opinion.
In a now-deleted post, the WWE Superstar referred to the situation as the “purest form of evil” taking place on the grand stage. The Maverick criticized the decision to allow Khelif to perform in the women’s welterweight despite failing her gender test. Paul showed remorse for Angela Carini, who was fighting for her dead father’s honor at the Olympics. After receiving criticism for spreading misinformation, the 29-year-old posted another tweet, correcting himself.
The United States Champion, without apologizing for his transphobic actions, stated that he had forgotten to check other sources. Further, he acknowledged that Imane Khelif is, in fact, a biological woman. However, Logan Paul backed his opinion of not allowing men to compete against women in the field of sports.
Needless to say, wrestling fans weren’t pleased with the YouTuber’s statements regarding the controversy. Some called out the Ohio-born wrestler for his perceived hypocrisy and petitioned for WWE to lay out a severe punishment. Paul will be appearing on tonight’s episode of SmackDown, which will emanate from his hometown of Cleveland ahead of SummerSlam.
Logan Paul will face LA Knight for the US Championship at SummerSlam
As mentioned above, Logan Paul will be appearing on the SmackDown go-home episode for SummerSlam. The 29-year-old star might come face-to-face with LA Knight before their clash on Saturday.
For months, Paul and Knight traded back-and-forth jabs on social media. The Megastar expressed his intentions to not only go after the social media star but to also win the US title. Having said that, fans have been clamoring for Knight to finally receive his deserved moment at SummerSlam.
Paul’s reign as champion has been underwhelming, having only defended the title on two occasions since November 2023. The Maverick defeated Kevin Owens via disqualification at the Royal Rumble. Two months later, he successfully defended his championship against Owens and Randy Orton at WrestleMania.
