In 2022, the Chicago Bulls’ Lonzo Ball had to go through one of the biggest nightmares in an athlete’s career. The guard has been dealing with knee issues that have kept him away from the basketball court for two years now. However, recently the player shared an unknown fact about his injury while giving a positive update on his recovery.

Lonzo Ball started a new podcast called ‘The WAE Show’ where he shared a surprising detail about his meniscus. The star revealed that after repeatedly hurting his left knee, Ball did not have any cartilage left. The 26-year-old had a meniscus transplant along with a cartilage transplant.

There was no more meniscus left and bone on bone was rubbing. The cartilage was gone and the bone was messed up, so I had to get a new meniscus from a donor. I had to get a bone allograft and I had to get some new cartilage put in as well.

In January 2022, Ball was reported to have torn his meniscus and was expected to go through surgery. The star ended up going through three surgeries in the span of one year. Now the guard is covering and revealed that his knee is at about 70%.

The 2021-22 season was some of the best basketball the star had played in his career despite only playing 35 games. Ball was averaging 13 points, 5.4 rebounds and 5.1 assists per game. The Chicago Bulls‘ offense was hugely affected by Ball’s absence as the team dropped below .500 after that season.

Lonzo Ball is expecting to play the first game of 2024-25 season

Earlier this month, Ball gave his fans hope after he posted a video of him on his social media. The player was back in practice and was even dunking the basketball. The video sparked rumors about the star’s potential return to the game.

During his podcast, Ball provided a positive update about his return to the Bulls in the coming season. The player is confident about playing the first game after getting better over the summer.

Yes. I firmly believe that. That's the plan that I'm on. And I haven't had any setbacks. I expect to play the first game.

Ball has picked up a $21.4 Million option for the 2024-25 season. It would be interesting to see if Ball returns to the team and plays for the whole year, considering the team’s current uncertain situation with DeMar DeRozan and Zach Lavine.
