Lonzo Ball and Angel Reese
On June 4, the New York Liberty easily defeated the Chicago Sky, winning 88-75. With the Liberty comfortably in control in the final minutes, rookie Angel Reese of Sky was given her first-ever WNBA game ejection, drawing two swift whistles. With 2:31 left, Liberty was leading 82–71 when the ejection occurred. Interestingly, Lonzo Ball supported Reese on social media, calling the referee’s decision “weak.”
Referee Charles Watson gave Reese a personal foul whistle. Reese objected for a moment, then waved a dismissive hand and turned back to Watson. Reese was not permitted to play basketball again after Watson reacted with two technical whistles and an overhead toss gesture. Ball took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to put forward his opinions regarding the call.
Ref that threw out @Reese10Angel is weak btw… You know who you are (Keep ya money Angel I got you).Lonzo Ball wrote on X

Chicago Sky’s Marina Mabrey shares her opinion on teammate Angel Reese’s ejection
The New York Liberty outclassed the Chicago Sky 75-88 in the WNBA at the Wintrust Arena. Notably, Angel Reese of the Sky was ejected after receiving two technical fouls in the game. In addition, Sky’s top scorer Marina Mabrey shared her opinion on her teammate’s ejection and claimed that this would be a learning curve for Reese.
She got two techs, she said something to the ref, whatever he felt like was the correct call is what he made. It's more about composure for us in our young years in the WNBA. You've got to get to know refs and how they respond to things. After the game, Marina Mabrey told reporters
Reporters were informed by lead official Maj Forsberg that Reese received her first technical discipline for “disrespectfully addressing” Watson. Reese’s hand wave was the cause of the second.
Also, Reese’s ejection quickly led to a talking point in the WNBA and the NBA community, with some ex-players and current players voicing their opinions on the incident. It remains to be seen whether or not Reese opens up on this situation in the coming days or weeks.
