Italian star Lorenzo Musetti has heaped praise on Novak Djokovic‘s level of tennis in the Wimbledon semifinals on Friday. The 25th seed lost to the Serbian in straight sets on his Centre Court debut.
Musetti had chances to equalize the scoreline after he found himself a break ahead in the second set. However, Djokovic kept coming back and was resolute under pressure.
As I was saying to his team in the locker, this is the 7th time I think that we were playing each other. I never faced a Nole like this. Today I was really impressed. It was our first meeting on grass… his tennis fit really well on this surface.Lorenzo Musetti said
This was the third time Musetti and Djokovic have squared off in Grand Slam events. On the previous two occasions, the Italian managed to take two sets off the Belgrade native before losing in five sets. Those matches took place at the 2021 and 2024 Roland Garros editions, respectively.
Especially how he returns. It’s like kind of a joke. Today was really a joke at the end how he was returning. In the important points, especially in the 2nd set at the end I had chances to break him.. but he was serving really well. He deserved to win.Lorenzo Musetti added
Despite his recent loss, Musetti had a successful grasscourt season. Alongside his Wimbledon semifinal showing, he made it to the last four of the Stuttgart Open and finished runner-up to Tommy Paul at the Queen’s Club Championships.
Novak Djokovic sees off Lorenzo Musetti to seal 10th Wimbledon final
Novak Djokovic defeated Lorenzo Musetti to reach his sixth consecutive Wimbledon final. He will face reigning champion Carlos Alcaraz, repeating last year’s final fixture.
The 37-year-old impressed with a 6-4, 7-6 (7-2), 6-4 win on Centre Court. He is aiming for his eighth Wimbledon title, which will equal him with Roger Federer. Musetti had a chance to break back in the final set but missed, sealing his fate.
Ridiculous. Absurd.

Djokovic ensured Musetti had no more opportunities. The Italian sent a shot long on match point, which confirmed the Serbian’s 37th Grand Slam final and 10th at Wimbledon. Djokovic celebrated by pretending to play the violin for his daughter Tara, causing some fans to boo.
Alcaraz beat the seven-time champion in last year’s thrilling final, winning in five sets. Their rematch on Sunday could be another historic Wimbledon moment.
