Lorenzo Musetti ended the 2025 season without winning a title. He did reach three finals, in Monte Carlo, Ningbo, and Athens, losing all to Carlos Alcaraz, Alejandro Tabilo, and Novak Djokovic, respectively.

Recently, he sat for an interview with La Repubblica during which, among other topics, he discussed fatherhood. Musetti made an honest confession about how his girlfriend Veronica Confalonieri‘s unexpected first pregnancy left him in doubt.

My first child was a real shock and a wonderful surprise. He wasn’t wanted, we decided to keep him, and I had to rethink my life. I was afraid I wasn’t ready for new things. I had to start a family, move house, grow up, accept responsibilities. It wasn’t easy; it created doubts and problems for me, and I experienced Veronica’s pregnancy with a lot of struggle. Both mentally and emotionally.

Lorenzo Musetti said

The couple welcomed their first son, Ludovico, in March last year. They are expecting their second child.

Being judged negatively by fans, as if becoming a father meant turning your back on the sport, prioritizing yourself, feeling already fulfilled. For me, family is important, but so is tennis. Becoming a parent gave me an extra boost; what I’ve experienced off the court has helped me mature on the court. My personal journey has grown alongside my professional one; I don’t see my children as an obstacle.

Lorenzo Musetti added

When asked whether his colleagues ask him questions about fatherhood, Musetti said only Alexander Bublik discusses this, as the latter is the father of a three-year-old son. Musetti also explained that it’s more difficult for female athletes to play after giving birth, as he knows that female bodies go through many changes, and because of this very reason, they postpone pregnancies, as a comeback to the tour is never easy.

He cited Serena Williams‘ example, saying how, even the 23-time Grand Slam singles champion couldn’t manage to win a Grand Slam after becoming a mom.

Lorenzo Musetti on what he likes about tennis

During that interview with La Repubblica, Lorenzo Musetti was asked what he likes most about tennis. The 23-year-old recalled playing tennis in his childhood and revealed why he likes the sound of the ball.

I like the sound of the ball. Which is a sound, not something that disturbs. It speaks, it tells, it reminds. It’s a question of rhythm, of the ear, it’s a beat. I was little, I played in my grandmother’s basement, I banged against the wall, my father was there too, that’s where that sound began to speak to me.

Musetti last won a title at the 2022 Tennis Napoli Cup. Since then, he lost three finals: three last year and three this year. In the Grand Slam events this year, Musetti played his career’s second Major final. At the French Open, he gave the walkover to eventual champion Carlos Alcaraz in the last four. He lost in the third round of the Australian Open, the first round of Wimbledon, and in the quarterfinals of the US Open.

He played the first edition of the Hellenic Championship to qualify for the ATP Finals. Winning the title would have directly made him the eighth man to qualify, but he lost the final to Novak Djokovic, who decided to withdraw from the year-end championship for the second consecutive time. Musetti arrived in Turin as the Serb’s replacement.

Musetti couldn’t reach the semifinals. He first lost to last year’s runner-up, Taylor Fritz, and was successful in defeating Alex de Minaur. But his defeat to eventual runner-up Alcaraz ended his run.
