The Los Angeles Dodgers are the World Champions in 2024. On Wednesday night, the National League side got the better of the New York Yankees with a score of 7-6 and clinched their eighth World Series crown.
After taking a 3-0 lead in the series, the Yankees came out firing in Game 4 and forced a Game 5. In this do-or-die contest, the Bronx Bombers started strong as Aaron Judge got out of his batting slump with a two-run home run.
The Yanks would find themselves 5-0 up at one point in the game. Gerrit Cole continued to dominate from the mound and kept the visitors in control.
Judge would later go from hero to zero as he made a costly error in the fifth inning. He would drop the catch off Tommy Edman in center field which saw the Dodgers get two runners on base.
Judge is not able to make the grab on that one, and the Dodgers have 2 on with nobody out!

This error led to a few more mistakes from the Yankees’ defense. Anthony Rizzo failed to cover the first base after Mookie Betts hit a ground ball with two outs. If the Yanks had made the play, the inning would have been over at 5-0.
Freddie Freeman and Teoscar Hernandez would then drive two runs each to level up the game at 5-5. The Yankees retook the lead through a sacrifice fly from Giancarlo Stanton. The bullpen also failed to give cover to Cole as they gave up several walks which led to runners getting into scoring position. Betts gave the Dodgers the lead in the eighth inning through a sacrifice fly.

Walker Buehler, who had a strong performance in Game 3, came out to pitch in the ninth inning. In his first relief appearance since 2018, the 30-year-old kept his nerve and got the save to seal the World Series.
Fan reaction to Dodgers winning it all over Yankees in 2024 World Series
After winning it all in 1988, the Los Angeles Dodgers got their hands on the World Series again in 2020. However, that was the COVID-shortened season where the team only played 60 regular season games. They have now finally won a full 162-game season.

Fans on X were quick in to join the celebrations. While some were overcome with joy, others lauded the team for their performances throughout the year and claimed that they were well-deserved champions.

The search for championship number 28 for the Yankees will now stretch to another year. Several big changes could take place in the offseason with the future of Juan Soto still very much in the balance. As for the Dodgers, they will likely hold a parade soon to celebrate their eighth World Series title.
