It’s a new and exciting era for the Washington Commanders with rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels making headlines after being selected second overall in the draft. Daniels made a name for himself in the college game as an accurate passer and a very good runner with the ball drawing comparisons with Lamar Jackson.

After releasing both of their starting quarterbacks in the offseason, the new Commanders regime wanted a fresh face for the franchise and Daniels could provide that. His potential is so mammoth that he has already started scaring some NFL teams.

During a recent episode of ESPN’s NFL Live, Jeremy Fowler revealed that insiders from several teams have been keeping tabs on Jayden Daniels. They fear that the 23-year-old could cause a lot of damage on the field.

I've had multiple people this week bring up, unprompted, 'I'm kind of scared to death of what Washington could be with Jayden Daniels. Because he's got the high-end running ability like some of these other quarterbacks we've seen come in, but he is more advanced as a passer.

Fowler added that the comparisons with Lamar Jackson were evident. Even though the LSU graduate is still raw and not as dynamic of a rusher as the Ravens QB, he could be a better passer than Jackson was when he started out in the NFL.

It was brought up to me by the comp [comparison] with Lamar Jackson. Maybe not quite as good of a runner as Jackson was—but good enough—but a better passer at this stage of his career than Jackson was.

However, the veteran analyst threw in a warning. If the Commanders don’t fix their offensive line which gave away the second most sacks (65) last year, then Daniels will have a similar fate as Sam Howell.

Jayden Daniels could lead the Commanders to playoffs

Even though Dan Quinn hasn’t announced who will take the majority of reps in the July training camp considering how well Daniels has managed to adapt to his playstyle, it’s a no-brainer it will be the LSU graduate. The Heisman winner has all the tools in his arsenal to lead the Commanders to the postseason.

Bleacher Report’s Ryan Fowler shared the same sentiment about Daniels.

The Washington Commanders spent the No. 2 overall pick on reigning Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels, who should be their most talented signal-caller in over a decade. Daniels is an electric playmaker who can dissect defenses in a variety of ways.

The Commanders added free agent running back Austin Ekeler who could prove to be a perfect compliment to Brian Robinson Jr. They already have exciting receivers in the shape of Jahan Dotson, and Terry McLaurin, and in the draft, they took Luke McCaffrey.
