The Minnesota Timberwolves were missing defensive stalwart Rudy Gobert against the Denver Nuggets. This was in Game 2 of their NBA Western Conference semifinal series. However, the reason behind Gobert missing game 2 was the birth of his child with his fiancée, Julia Bonilla. This saw Gobert face the wrath of many NBA fans around the world. Recently, former NBA player Lou Williams came in support of the Timberwolves star.

Gobert has been a loyal and stellar player for the Timberwolves, dropping top performances consistently. For him to face such hate and toxicity took Williams by surprise in a recent interview posted on social media. Williams claimed on the “Underground Lounge” hosted by Spank Horton that family and the birth of the first child should always come first.

Yeah I think fans talking about, ‘ohh he should. Y’all; go shut the f**k up, you and your parlays. 100% did the right thing, go be with your family, go see your child being born, like those are moments for life. Let’s say your wife have a fucking complication, and you on the court warming up. Like come on bro, what are we talking about?

This was a clear swipe by Williams toward the NBA fans who have been showing Gobert hate regarding his decision. On the other hand, some NBA analysts think it’s unreasonable that Gobert prioritized his child’s birth over the playoff games.

Rudy Gobert received criticism from Gilbert Arenas for missing game 2

Former NBA player, Gilbert Arenas does not believe it is right to prioritize the birth of one’s first child over a playoff game. This is exactly what he felt when Rudy Gobert missed game 2 of the playoffs against the Denver Nuggets.

It’s a baby, bro. It’s gonna be there when you get back, we hope. I’m just saying, the baby, whatever you think you about to do, he's going to be asleep.

Arenas further claimed that he should have played the playoff game and then visited his fiancee post-game. Ultimately, Gobert made his decision and has stood by it. He has made his return to the Timberwolves roster and will be focused on getting his side to the next round of playoffs.
