Lou Williams casts aside Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown

Lou Williams was a bonafide bucket in the NBA. The former Sixth Man of the Year spent 17 years in the league with six different teams. It’s safe to say that he knows the ins and outs of the game better than most.

On a recent episode of his Run it Back podcast, Williams revealed who he believes is the top duo in the NBA. After winning the championship last season, many certified Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown as the best duo in the NBA.

However, even though the Celtics stand near the top of the Eastern Conference to start the 2024-25 NBA season, Lou Williams has a new pick for the top duo in the league: Donovan Mitchell and Darius Garland, the duo that stands atop the Eastern Conference with an 8-0 record.

I’m going to mix it up, I’m going to show some love out there to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Give me Garland and Mitchell. The way they’ve been able to put it together with the rest of the group, they’re rolling right now. One of the undefeated teams that’s left out there, so I’m going to show some love to Cleveland.

Williams revealed that he wanted to put up some different opinions given the near-unanimous acceptance of Brown and Tatum as the top duo in the league. He picked the Cleveland backcourt as the best pairing in the league.

The Cleveland Cavaliers currently sit atop the Eastern Conference with an 8-0 record, led by the offensive firepower of Donovan Mitchell and Darius Garland. The Cavs join the Oklahoma City Thunder as the only team in the NBA to remain unbeaten so far.

The 38-year-old believes that the Cavaliers are the best team in the league so far, propelling their backcourt over the duo of Tatum and Brown. The Cavaliers lost to the Celtics in the second round of the playoffs last season.

Lou Williams calls out ‘selfish’ Drake after DeMar DeRozan fiasco

Lou Williams backed up former teammate DeMar DeRozan amidst the Kings stars’ clash with Drake. Drake’s recent comments about DeRozan confirmed the feud between the two long-term friends.

Williams called out Drake for being ‘selfish’ by disrespecting DeRozan’s achievements with the Toronto Raptors during his nine-year tenure with the team.

If I’m gonna speak candidly, I thought that was selfish of Drake. Drake as well as the country of Canada, the city of Toronto, they know what DeMar DeRozan has contributed to the culture up there… So for Drake to say if you put up a banner and I’ll personally pull it down, it’s like, is it just about you, or is it about the Toronto Raptors.

Williams called out Drake for casting his personal differences with DeRozan into the legendary career of the former Raptors star. DeRozan ended his time with the Raptors as the all-time leading scorer for the franchise. The feud between Drake and DeRozan arose after the Compton native appeared on Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Not Like Us’ diss track directed at Drake.
