Lucknow Super Giants captain KL Rahul ruled out of IPL 2023, doubtful for WTC Final
While LSG can manage to play without KL Rahul and Jaydev Undakat, these injuries come as a major dent for Team India who are eyeing their maiden ICC World Test Championship title.

Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have been dealt a massive blow as their captain KL Rahul has been ruled out of the remainder of IPL 2023. Rahul, who suffered an injury to his right hamstring during his team’s match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Monday has been ruled out of the tournament. The LSG captain will receive treatment for his injury at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.
While there has been no official confirmation from either the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) or the LSG management, reports have confirmed that Rahul will not take any further part in IPL 2023. He will head to the NCA on Thursday (4 May) and the BCCI will take over his treatment. But before that, the LSG captain will undergo scans in Mumbai.
“KL Rahul, who limped off the ground, during Lucknow Super Giants’ defeat against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Monday is expected to miss the remainder of the Indian Premier League. While exact details on the nature of his injury is yet to be shared by the franchise or the BCCI, it is understood that the opener will fly to Mumbai to undergo scans and then will head to the National Cricket Academy for rehabilitation,” claimed an Indian Express report.
Along with Rahul, his LSG teammate Jaydev Unadkat will also head to the NCA to recover from the shoulder injury the left-arm pacer sustained during a practice session. The IE report claims that Unadkat would need 6-7 weeks time to recover.
Headache for Indian selectors

While LSG can manage to play without KL Rahul and Jaydev Undakat, these injuries come as a major dent for Team India who are eyeing their maiden ICC World Test Championship title. Both these players are a part of the 15-member squad that will fly to England to take part in the WTC Final against Australia in June.
Apart from Rahul and Unadkat, Umesh Yadav and Shardul Thakur are also not fully fit. The two players are nursing minor injuries and the BCCI is keeping a close tab on both these players. While Thakur and Yadav are expected to recover in time, Rahul and Unadkat’s availability for the WTC Final will depend on how quickly they recover. In case, the two players don’t recover in time, the selectors will have to name a replacement before May 21.
