It was a thumping performance from Liverpool as they returned to winning ways after surprise defeat against Nottingham Forest in the preceding week. A stunning display featuring unmitigated attacking intent left Bournemouth with a very sour taste in their mouth against the inexorable Reds under their new manager, Arne Slot.
Luis Diaz spearheaded the charge for Liverpool while he had support from Darwin Nunez as the Reds moved up to the top of the points table momentarily. Bournemouth did put the ball into the back of the net through Antoine Semenyo but that was ruled offside. Liverpool came up with an equally brilliant response as Diaz’s low fizzling effort in the seventh minute was palmed away by Kepa Arrizabalaga.
It was in the 26th minute that Liverpool found their opening goal through an explosive Diaz. Latching onto a fine ball from Ibrahima Konate, Diaz surged past the Bournemouth custodian and the ball flew into the back of the net. Two minutes later, Diaz had his second of the evening, also doubling Liverpool’s lead.
Being at the receiving end of a clever delivery from Trent Alexander-Arnold, Diaz made no mistake in finding the back of the net as the Reds kept on soaring. Nine minutes later, Liverpool found their third through an exquisite strike from Darwin Nunez. Nunez shifted a delivery from Mohamed Salah from his right to left before letting one of those screamers fly into the back of the net beyond the grasp of a diving Kepa.
Liverpool came mighty close again in the second half when Mo Salah was clear on goal but stellar blocking from his counterparts saw the effort saved. Despite Lewis Cook’s stinging effort that rattled the woodwork, Liverpool kept their nerves about them and secured the bragging rights emphatically to leapfrog Manchester City.
Trent Alexander-Arnold completed a century of goal-contributions for Liverpool
Amidst the brilliant performers of Liverpool, Trent Alexander-Arnold shined bright again with another important assist. As per the stat report prepared by OptaJoe, this was TAA’s 100th goal-contribution for the Reds. The right-back has hammered home a staggering 19 goals while carving 81 for his teammates.
In the recent years of dominance for Liverpool, TAA continues to be an integral part of their attacking echelons alongside his defensive duties which he has carried out significantly well. Alexander-Arnold was recently involved in a rumor of buying French club, FC Nantes with a bid of staggering amount.
With this win over Bournemouth, Liverpool racked up their fourth win of the ongoing Premier League which took them to 12 points from five games. Their solitary defeat came in the last match against Nottingham Forest which was pretty shocking. However, Arne Slot ensured the fact that the Reds didn’t drop further momentum as they clinched a win without breaking any sweat whatsoever.
