On Monday night, the MLB network revealed the 2024 Rookie of the Season Awards winners. New York Yankees’ Luis Gil was named as the winner of this award for the American League.
The pitcher began the 2024 season with a demotion to the minor league around three weeks before the Opening Day. However, he was called up to the team when the Yankees needed someone in their pitching rotation.
The 25-year-old made 29 starts during the regular season and finished with a 15-7 record and a 3.50 ERA. He gave up 104 hits and 71 walks, while striking out 171 batters.
As per the report from Bryan Hoch of MLB.com, this was one of the closest Rookie of the Year tallies in recent history. As per Hoch, Gil picked up 106 points with 15 first-place votes, 10 second-place votes, and 1 third-place vote. This saw him finish five points ahead of runner-up Colton Cowser who finished with 101 points.

As for the National League, the Rookie of the Year Award went to Pittsburgh Pirates ace Paul Skenes. This meant that for the first time since 1981, two starting pitchers have won this award. At that time, it was Fernando Valenzuela and Dave Righetti who claimed this award in the NL and AL, respectively.
