Luis Suarez continues his tremendous form for Atletico Madrid in the La Liga
Luis Suarez continues his good form for Atletico Madrid under Diego Simeone as the Madrid team keep their spot at the top of the table. Atletico Madrid managed to defeat Celta in the La Liga and continued their winning streak.
The Uruguayan international struck twice in the game and moves ahead of his former teammate Lionel Messi in the goalscoring charts. He struck first just at the stroke of half time at the Wanda Metropolitano as the visitors took the lead just 13 minutes in from Santi Mina.
Luis Suarez breaks a record previously held by Cristiano Ronaldo
With his tremendous performance against Celta, Luis Suarez now has 16 goals in 17 matches for his new club Atletico Madrid and has broken a record which was previously held by Cristiano Ronaldo at Real Madrid. The Portuguese sensation had 15 goals registered to his name at the Santiago Bernabeu but now Luis Suarez has moved ahead of him in that record.
It just adds more insult to injury to his former team FC Barcelona who let him go at a minimal price to such a big rival. It’s still a horrible transfer decision which has no sense and is only coming to haunt them more.
A win on Sunday will put Diego Simeone’s men 10 point’s ahead of Real Madrid and FC Barcelona and moreover they will also be having a game in hand. It’s pretty much easy to say hat Luis Suarez has been pivotal in securing a lot of wins for Atletico Madrid this season and is crucial in the title race for them.
Iago Aspas believes that the Luis Suarez transfer was a big mistake on part of FC Barcelona :
The truth is he was a true forward, a winner even in rondos and training matches. He always gave 200 per cent.
“What you see on the pitch is what he’s like training.
“He’s always been a striker who scores a lot of goals, I think it was a big error on Barcelona’s part, but they were struggling a bit with the wage budget.
“Atletico took advantage, moved quickly and signed a great striker. In fact, many of the points they have won are thanks to him and his finishing.”
