Luka Doncic 4th in MVP Race Despite Otherworldly Performances Stuns Lakers Fans – “The Disrespect to This Man”
Luka Doncic has been playing exceptionally well, and has worked on improving his defense in the second half of the season.

- Luka Doncic has averaged 35.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, and assists during the Lakers' recent 14-5 stretch.
- Despite his performances, Doncic is ranked fourth in the MVP race behind Victor Wembanyama, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, and Nikola Jokic.
- Fans express frustration over Doncic's MVP ranking, citing perceived bias and the impact of media narratives.
Since the 2026 All-Star weekend, Luka Doncic has been on a tear for the Los Angeles Lakers, which has seen them reverse course and vault up to third in the Western Conference.
That is a major departure from the time when the franchise was struggling to put together a run of consistent wins. If they had won a few, they would then struggle to win even against mediocre competition.
Some of those losses were so bad that their fans were starting to blame both the Slovenian for his questionable actions during the game and veteran superstar LeBron James.
Now, those performances have led the purple and gold franchise to win 14 of its last 19 games, a record even their ardent fans could not have dreamed of when they watched the team struggle in December and January.
In that stretch, Luka Doncic has averaged 35.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, and assists. Usually, such a stretch of impressive performances, along with his team moving back up the table, should be enough to boost his MVP chances.
https://t.co/wWGNmWnCY9’s updated MVP Ladder:
— NBACentral (@TheDunkCentral) March 27, 2026
1. Victor Wembanyama
2. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander
3. Nikola Jokić
4. Luka Dončić
5. Jaylen Brown
6. Cade Cunningham
7. Jalen Johnson
8. Kawhi Leonard
9. Donovan Mitchell
10. Anthony Edwards
Instead, the 27-year-old is in fourth place, behind close friend Nikola Jokic, reigning MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, and San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama.
Fans fume at Luka Doncic’s MVP race odds
Last week, Luka Doncic jumped up to second in the KIA MVP Race. The week before that, he was fourth, where he has been for most of the season.
Fans felt these last few performances should have been enough to push the five-time All-NBA first-teamer up to the top of this ladder. Instead, they are irked by the league’s latest ranking.
They felt that Victor Wembanyama’s one passionate speech should not have vaulted him to No. 1, especially when Doncic clearly has had the better run. Check out examples of those reactions below:

The NBA is politics, they push who they want as the face of the NBA down our throats, the meaning of MVP has been lost. Not the first time they doing it, won't be the last. Clowns

conversation was SGA v Luka a week ago, debating if Luka had enough time to catch SGA.
Wemby gives some impassioned speech at the podium on why he should be MVP & media goes “you know what, YUP!”
now Wemby jumps 3 spots & sits at the top? huh? https://t.co/q6Wa9HHRTY
It’s really insane, I guess the nba trying to fill a new agenda

40/8/8 during a stretch where his team went 10-1 and he won player of the week and Luka drops 2 spots 😂. Don’t ever try and say the NBA media doesn’t hate this man.

Is this true ? If it is, it's insane. I also want to know the real reason why media hates Luka soooooook much

Victor should not be on the top of this list 24/11/3 is not numbers to win MVP! I’m sorry but Luka’s dominant and lakers would be nothing without him. Reeves was hurt. Lebron isn’t the same player and missed a lot of the season
— Selfmade89 (@Jkyme8487) March 27, 2026
I just accepted the fact that he’s never going to win this, because if they don’t like u, it’s over, and for some reason, they hate him, how on earth u average 40 on winning streak and u dropped like that🤣🤣🤣🤣

Victor Wembanyama has a solid reason to be up there in the KIA MVP race. However, fans pointed out that he is the sole superstar on that San Antonio Spurs team.
On the other hand, Luka Doncic has produced some otherworldly performances despite having to share the ball with LeBron James and Austin Reaves.
Luka Doncic could win first MVP award if he continues his run of performances
The oddsmakers may not love Luka Doncic currently, but they might not have anything to say if he continues to perform at this level for the rest of the regular season.

The Lakers are set to play nine more games before preparing for the playoffs, and among those games are two battles against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Those matchups against reigning MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander could determine whether the father of two daughters has it in him to cement the most important end-of-season award.
The former Real Madrid prodigy can also use the remaining games to produce some more electric performances that should be enough to vault him back to the top.
