Luka Doncic and Mavericks make history in Game 4 against Boston Celtics to avoid Finals sweep
The Mavericks broke multiple records in their blow out win against the Celtics.
Luka Doncic and the Mavericks got a historic win against the Celtics
Luka Doncic was not lying when he said the series was not over yet when the Dallas Mavericks went 0-3 in the NBA finals. The team certainly knows how to make changes, and they showed it in the elimination game. The Mavericks came out stronger in Game 4, which is an understatement for their dominant performance.
Luka Doncic and company made things clear for Boston ever since the tipoff. Dallas did not let the juggernaut Celtics get a lead after their 13-11 score halfway through the first quarter. After that, the Mavericks went on a ridiculous run and had a 48-point lead at 115-67 with almost half of the 4th quarter remaining. The score was historic, as it was the largest lead in the NBA finals in at least 50 years.
After facing criticism for leaving the game early in the third game, Doncic made sure the team was good before he settled on the bench tonight. The Slovenian scored a historic 25 points in the first half, and the entire Celtics scored 35 at half-time. Doncic finished with 29 points, as he did not have to play much in the second half.
However, Doncic was not the only offensive pillar for the team. He led the team while others played their parts perfectly to get back into the competition. The Celtics looked helpless as the entire team was shooting poorly. Moreover, the starters were out in the third quarter, accepting their defeat. The team certainly needs better plans to take down the Dallas Mavericks in this final.
Dallas Mavericks also made history with their final score
All of the Mavericks, including the head coach, kept their attitude positive after the third loss. Kyrie Irving even talked about ‘gun blazing‘ in the fourth game, and the team did just that. The lead was unbeatable, as none of the Mavericks’ starters played more than 33 minutes.
The starting five left the game in the third quarter, but the team still managed to win by 38 points. This became the third-largest marginal victory in NBA finals history at 122-84. However, these two records are just a few to name about the Mavericks’ lead in the win.
The team has successfully avoided a sweep, but the path from here will certainly not be easy. Dallas has to perform with the same energy in the next games and win every matchup from the next game to claim the title. The journey would be difficult, but the series has undeniably become more interesting after Game 4.
