- Draymond Green criticizes media hypocrisy for vilifying Nico Harrison after Luka Doncic's trade.
- Now the media are criticizing Luka Doncic for the same reasons Nico Harrison mentioned.
- Nick Wright suggests JJ Redick should adjust Luka Doncic's role in late-game situations.
When Luka Doncic was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers, fans and most of the media naturally turned on the then-Dallas Mavericks GM and President of Basketball Operations, Nico Harrison.
In the immediate aftermath, the 53-year-old had to hire private security to keep his family home safe after fans started sending death threats. The media were not far behind, with many questioning whether the logic he provided to justify the trade made sense, especially when he brought in Anthony Davis, who also has a long and diverse injury history.
Eventually, fans got their way, as their ‘Fire Nico’ chants came true when Mavericks governor, Patrick Dumont, dismissed the former Nike executive after his ‘vision’ led to the team starting the season in terrible form.
But what rubbed salt in the wounds was when those in the media used that opportunity to criticize Nico Harrison for his decisions. That is what Draymond Green has a problem with.
Now, when I turn on the TV all I see is media who crushed Nico, which essentially aided in him getting fired, regurgitating the same things that Nico Harrison was saying. I haven’t seen one person come out and say, ‘Hey Nico, I’m sorry for the things I said about you when you made those moves, because I just said the same things out of my mouth.’

The Golden State Warriors star reiterated that he was not taking shots at Luka Doncic. Instead, he was calling out the media’s hypocrisy for not acknowledging that they were wrong to vilify Nico Harrison at the time.
Nick Wright wants JJ Redick to give Luka Doncic the Stephen Curry treatment
Criticisms were already mounting against Luka Doncic after the Lakers lost embarrassingly to the Boston Celtics, and then to the Orlando Magic, where he literally choked on an open three-pointer.
But in the game against the Phoenix Suns, he scored 41 points. However, Nick Wright believes that head coach JJ Redick needs to make some changes to how he utilizes the Slovenian late in games.
I think he needs to have the strength in his convictions to give Luka the Steph Curry treatment at the end of games.
Nick Wright said on First Things First
By that, the analyst means that, instead of keeping Doncic in the game for defensive purposes, he should do what Steve Kerr does with Stephen Curry: take him off the court and let his defensive specialists stop their opponents.

Wright pointed out how Suns star Grayson Allen, driving past the 6’8″ guard, displayed Doncic’s defensive deficiencies. When the home team had taken a timeout, Redick should have replaced his offensive star and sent him back in with the timeout the Lakers had in their possession.
What Wright was trying to point out is that the Lakers’ head coach should not stop to bench his star player, especially when the game demands a different scenario.
Nick Wright and colleagues brutally troll Luka Doncic
During this debate, when Nick Wright was talking about how boring the game between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Phoenix Suns was, he said this:

I fell asleep last night before this game ended.
Nick Wright said
Immediately, his First Things First co-host Kevin Wildes chimed in:
So did Luka.
Kevin Wildes said
This brought out a bout of laughter from the two and colleague Chris Broussard, as they knew the joke behind it, especially with the way Luka Doncic almost fell asleep while guarding Grayson Allen, which allowed the Suns to create and score the game-winner.
