In Short
  • Luka Doncic scored 60 points in a game against the Miami Heat, marking his first 60-point game since joining the Lakers.
  • His recent performances have shifted the opinions of former NBA players who previously criticized him.
  • The Lakers improved their record to 45-25, sitting third in the Western Conference standings.

Another Los Angeles Lakers game and another Luka Doncic masterclass. Another win for the Lakers on Thursday night saw them extend their winning streak to eight games as they registered an impressive 134-126 victory over the Miami Heat at the Kaseya Center.

Doncic has been otherworldly over the last two weeks. He arguably had his best game in Purple and Gold as he recorded his first 60-point game since joining the Lakers at the trade deadline last year.

Former NBA players such as Kendrick PerkinsDeMarcus Cousins, and Lou Williams, who were critical of Doncic not so long ago, were in awe after his latest staggering performance.

Former NBA champion Kendrick Perkins had Cade Cunningham ahead of Luka Doncic in his top-five players this season. But Perkins seems to have to do some rethinking after Thursday night.

Doncic is the first Laker to have a 60-point game since Kobe Bryant in 2016. The Slovenian guard ended his night with 60 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and five steals.

Just 24 hours ago, the 27-year-old came off a dominant 40-point performance against the Houston Rockets. On the second night of a back-to-back, Doncic showed no signs of fatigue and has now scored 100 points in the last 24 hours.

Doncic’s latest string of performances should put him back in the MVP conversation. During their win streak, Doncic has been averaging 40.9 points, 8.9 rebounds, and 7.4 assists.

The win saw the Lakers’ record improve to 45-25 as they sit at third place in the highly competitive Western Conference standings. They are now two games ahead of fourth-placed Minnesota Timberwolves. Meanwhile, the Heat have lost three games in a row and have dropped to eighth place in the Eastern Conference standings. They are just 0.5 games behind the direct playoff qualification spots.

NBA fans react to former NBA players changing their stance on Luka Doncic

It was not so long ago when Doncic was receiving constant criticism for his repeated nagging of officials. Many even believed he was hurting his team’s chances. But his recent performances have turned his critics into his fans.

Following the praises of the former players, fans took to social media to express their opinions.

Most fans believe that these praises are just short-lived. Doncic has been at an MVP level throughout the season, but unfortunately, he was not getting the same level of recognition.

LeBron James hits back at his critics

When LeBron James was ruled out for three games due to an injury, the Lakers went 3-0 and saw Doncic form a strong partnership with Austin Reaves. Hence, some believed James’ return could hurt the Lakers as he is a defensive liability and would hurt the team’s chemistry.

In his post-match media scrum, LeBron James hit back at critics who said the team would be better off without him.

It sells papers a lot easier — and clippings and podcasts — if you say, ‘LeBron, the team is better off without him.’ A lot of people will try to like view it. So, I get it. … They’re absolutely wrong.

LeBron James on his critics

Since his return from injury, the Lakers have gone 5-0 with the 41-year-old in the lineup. On Thursday night, he recorded a triple-double as he scored 19 points to go along with 15 rebounds and 10 assists.
