- Luka Doncic is engaged in a custody battle with ex-girlfriend Anamaria Goltes over their two daughters.
- Goltes filed for child support in California, but Doncic argues the case should be dismissed as the children reside in Slovenia.
- Doncic's recent performance has sparked MVP discussions, averaging 40.9 points during an eight-game winning streak with the Lakers.
While things are looking promising and exciting for Luka Doncic on the court, things have been far from it off the court.
Doncic was engaged to his longtime girlfriend Anamaria Goltes, and they have two daughters together, one aged two, and the other was born in December last year. The rumors of their split have been circulating all across social media over the last few weeks.
Coincidentally, the 27-year-old’s sudden jump in form has taken place during the same time frame. His hot form has earned him shouts for league MVP.
While Luka Doncic has been playing at an elite level over the last few games for the Lakers, his personal life has taken a few hits. The Slovenian has been caught up in a custody battle over his two daughters with Anamaria Goltes. The two have been in a relationship for 10 years and broke off their engagement after nearly 3 years.
Anamaria Goltes filed a petition seeking child support. But it looks like Doncic is not going down without a fight and is ready to take their battle to the court of law. According to the latest TMZ Sports reports:
The Lakers superstar filed docs Friday asking an L.A. County judge to dismiss Anamaria Goltes’ request for child support and attorneys fees, because she filed it in California … when she knows the kids live in Slovenia. In the docs, obtained by TMZ Sports, Luka and his attorney Laura Wasser point out he is not a California resident, and neither are their daughters.
Based on the reports, Doncic and his attorney want the petition to be dismissed as the case has been filed in the wrong country. The Lakers guard also claimed that he filed a petition back in his home country, Slovenia, last month.
Doncic’s latest personal struggles saw him gain support from his former Dallas Mavericks teammate, Kyrie Irving. However, with Goltes looking for child support, it looks like this whole situation could get a lot messier heading forward.
Is Luka Doncic in the MVP conversation?
There is no doubt that Luka Doncic has been the best player in the NBA over the last two weeks. During his hot run of form, the Lakers have gone on an eight-match winning streak.
During this eight-game stretch, Doncic has been averaging 40.9 points, 8.9 rebounds, and 7.4 assists. He is also coming off his first 60-point game against the Miami Heat since joining the Lakers last year.

ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith spoke on Doncic’s chances of winning the MVP award this season.
I’m ashamed I haven’t brought up Luka for league MVP considerations sooner than this morning. That ends now. That gets corrected…. Luka Doncic in a Lakers uniform is a top candidate for league MVP.

With 12 games to go, Luka Doncic leads the league in scoring and is currently averaging 33.4 points per game this season. If he can sustain this level till the end of the regular season, he may actually have a strong chance of claiming his first MVP award.
Draymond Green is wary of the Lakers with Luka Doncic and LeBron James
There has been a lot of criticism surrounding the Lakers despite being in the top six throughout the campaign. Their lack of defense is seen as one of the main reasons why many do not view them as championship contenders this season. However, after their latest turn in form, critics have started to look at them differently.
Four-time champion Draymond Green knows a thing or two about what it takes to win a championship. On the latest episode of his podcast, Green said the Lakers have as good a chance as any to make a lot of noise in the postseason with Doncic and LeBron James within their ranks.
How dangerous can they be during the playoffs? And a part of me wants to say not very dangerous at all, but the other side of me knows better. You got Luka Doncic and LeBron James on the court at the same time. You have a chance always against anyone.

The Lakers’ impressive run in form has seen them climb up to third place in the Western Conference standings. During their winning streak, they have registered wins against the likes of the Denver Nuggets, Houston Rockets, and Minnesota Timberwolves.
