Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards has garnered some attention for his recent comments regarding a string of speculative one-on-one matchups between basketball legends. When told to pick between Carmelo Anthony vs Kevin Durant and Luka Doncic vs Larry Bird, Edwards’ choices were quite questionable.
Edwards picked Durant in the first matchup and then picked Dallas Mavericks star man Doncic over the Boston Celtics legend Bird. However, his picks were not a surprise as he had previously stated that only the great Michael Jordan was the ‘only skilled’ player in his era.
Edwards grew up in the 2010s watching players like Stephen Curry and LeBron James. However, he has also studied players like Dwyane Wade and Kobe Bryant to borrow and implement some of their movements in his game. That being said, the decisions the 23-year-old has made are solely based on what he feels fit to answer publicly.
The contest between Doncic and Bird is perhaps the most contentious. However, it’s not unexpected that Edwards would choose the modern star. On the other hand, with all eyes on him to establish himself as the NBA’s next big talent, Edwards is under intense pressure to perform well. It will be interesting to watch how he performs in the upcoming 2024-25 NBA season.
Anthony Edward holds Luka Doncic in high regard
The Dallas Mavericks faced off against the Minnesota Timberwolves in the NBA Playoffs in the 2023-24 season. All eyes were on two stars of each team — the Mavs’ Luka Doncic and the Timberwolves’ Anthony Edwards. The Mavs’ star man stood out in the Playoff series, dropping 36 points (shooting 14 of 22 from the field) to go with 10 rebounds and five assists.
After this immaculate performance, Edwards gave Doncic his flowers and said that he held him in high regard.

Edwards and Donic have always had huge respect for each other. Going into the 2024-25 NBA season, all eyes will be on these two stars to deliver once again for their respective sides. It will be interesting to watch who will come out on top in the Western Conference.
