When the Dallas Mavericks traded Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers, it was a business decision for them. They were willing to let go of a 25-year-old generational talent in order to win now. Their next few moves confirmed that logic, however, that generational talent was left heartbroken.

He allegedly shed tears once he was informed that the team who he represented for his entire seven and a half years in the NBA did not need him anymore. The Slovenian was also visibly disturbed as he was speaking to reporters at the Los Angeles Lakers facilities.

He was beyond shocked and in disbelief knowing they gave up on his dream of winning an NBA title with them. After the trade broke headlines throughout the world, his father Sasa Doncic went on a rant, talking about how the Dallas Mavericks treated his son unfairly.

Now after his debut against the Utah Jazz, Luka Doncic looked a bit more at ease. His father and the rest of his family were at Crypto.com Arena. It seems as if they were coming to terms. A Slovenian reporter asked Sasa Doncic about their mood now, to which he replied.

I have to say, at least what Luka and I talk about, it feels like the trade happened a year ago, we’ve already forgot about it. The bitterness of that moment, it was a shock. But at the end of the day, it’s a legitimate right of every team to trade its players. Life moves on.

Once the team bus stopped outside Delta Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, he stepped out to see a horde of fans waiting for him. The clip shows him walking up to each and every fan and signing their merchandise.

Those Lakers fans in Utah showing him all the love will be one of the ways the Slovenian slowly embraces his new community. The franchise has brought the five-time All-NBA 1st teamer in to be their next face. That face has to do what he needs to do to ensure those fans feel he is one of them.
