Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving need THIS Clippers star to complete championship puzzle, claims former player
Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving need assistance to help them compete for an NBA title.
Los Angeles Clippers superstar Paul George could join Dallas Mavericks stars Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving to complete championship puzzle
After losing to the Boston Celtics in the NBA Finals, the first order of business the Dallas Mavericks have to do is to improve their game. They have to find ways to get players other than Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving scoring on their own. That itself was the biggest reason they lost the Finals despite having close games. However, a former player thinks the Mavericks could solve the problem by going after Los Angeles Clippers superstar Paul George.
Former NBA player Raymond Felton was speaking on the Tidal League podcast. While discussing what the Dallas Mavericks lacked, the former point guard had quite a few things to say.
They trying to do three guys, three All-Stars in Philly. So why not try to do a three here (on the Mavericks). If you can bring a PG with them two, put PG at 3 or 4, that's what Boston is doing.Raymond Felton said
Paul George is the best option considering the free agents who are available this off-season. This suggestion from Felton was an attempt to fix 2 problems the Dallas Mavericks are facing.
Bringing Paul George in would instantly help the Mavericks distribute their offensive workload. The NBA Finals runners-up could switch between their new trio to manage their health. A big problem down the stretch especially for Luka Doncic.
The 2nd most important skill the Los Angeles Clippers superstar brings is defense. The way Paul George locks up the perimeter will help the Mavericks breathe easier when going up against the likes of the superstar-laden Boston Celtics.
Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving need another scoring teammate
Luka Doncic played through a lot of injuries all throughout the playoffs. There were times when he was struggling with the pain but soldiered through considering the task at hand. The reason he ended up in this situation is because the Mavericks were struggling to win games consistently earlier in the season. They needed all the scoring and playmaking from their young superstar to survive.
Sure, Kyrie Irving did share the scoring load. But up until the turn of this year, Irving was the only other star who could score. Which meant, they had to make moves if they had to move up the ladder. The Dallas Mavericks did make trades, but PJ Washington is not a player who can consistently create shots for himself.
Therefore, it is paramount for the Mavericks to look for a player who can at least keep the scoring going when Doncic and Irving rest. Else, the load on those two could again lead to injuries or fatigue when the playoffs come around.
