- Luka Doncic dropped from second to fourth in the NBA MVP rankings despite averaging over 40 points per game.
- Doncic expressed frustration over his MVP chances, stating, "the better I play, the more I go down in ratings."
- Fans and teammates criticized the MVP voting process, suggesting it is unfair to Doncic given his recent performances.
At this point, Luka Doncic must be wondering what more he can do to win his first MVP regular-season award. But such is the competition in the league today. Last week, Doncic was second in the KIA MVP rankings. After showing no signs of slowing down, it was expected he would remain second or possibly jump to the top spot. But to everyone’s surprise, that was not the case.
After finding out that he has dropped to the fourth spot in the latest MVP rankings, Doncic was asked what it would mean to win his first MVP this season in his post-match press conference.
Yeah, hopefully, but the better I play, the more I go down in ratings. So I don’t know what more I can do.

The Los Angeles Lakers returned to home court after a six-game road trip. During the away trip, Luka Doncic averaged over 40 points per game. No player has achieved such numbers since Michael Jordan in 1986.
The Lakers have been red hot since the beginning of March, largely due to the contributions of their star guard. In their 15th game of the month, the Lakers registered a convincing 116-99 victory over a struggling Brooklyn Nets at the Crypto.com Arena on Friday night. Doncic led the scorers once again with a game-high 41 points to go along with eight rebounds, three assists, and three steals in under 39 minutes.
They have gone 13-2 in the month of March. During this period, Doncic had his first-ever 60-point game in purple and gold. Considering his performances this whole month, many were stunned to see the drop. The latest rankings saw Victor Wembanyama and Nikola Jokic surge past the Slovenian.
Fans react to Luka Doncic’s reaction to his drop in the MVP rankings
It is hard to believe that Luka Doncic dropped by two places after being sublime this whole month, especially in the last week. While his competitors have been putting up impressive numbers as well, there is a level of unfairness to Doncic’s drop. His reaction at the press conference said it all.
Following his straightforward response, NBA fans took to social media to react to his statements.
He’ll never get one even if he wins a finals, media hates him too much especially Brian Windhorst, guy runs around behind the scenes espn spewing Luka hate like crazy

He was asked a question about the MVP award and gave a direct response…which means he should boost up to number 1, right?

Or does that only work for tall frenchmen…?
As unfair as it is cause of these biased pathetic voters, the only way luka can leave no doubt and win MVP is if he beats the thunder twice coming up and balls out both games. Come for blood @lukadoncic u are the best player in the world and your talents need to be appreciated🙏

I know Luka is not a cocky guy off court but he needs to speak up and call them out. Tell them he's the best this season and no one can deny that. Shame them and make them realise they can't get away with constantly robbing him of MVPs

The fans came in support of the Lakers’ star. Many believe the media are being unfair to the Slovenian guard. who has been red hot since the All-Star break last month. Doncic is averaging 37.2 points, 8.2 rebounds, 7.1 assists, 2.3 steals, and 0.7 blocks per game in March.
Austin Reaves drops blunt take on Luka Doncic’s drop in MVP rankings
With LeBron James at the backend of his career, Luka Doncic is the focal point of this team. He leads the league in scoring and is currently averaging 33.7 points, 7.8 rebounds and 8.2 assists.

After Doncic recorded another 40-point game this season, his teammate Austin Reaves weighed in on the latest rankings.
He continues to drop in the MVP race, which is insane to me. I guess it don’t really matter, maybe he’s gotta score 60, I don’t know.

Doncic has finished in the top three in the MVP race just once in his career before, and it looks like he will have to settle for a similar spot once again. With eight games to go, it is highly unlikely he will win his first MVP this season.
