Luka Doncic was caught off guard when he was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers four months ago after spending his first six NBA seasons with the Dallas Mavericks. Adjusting to the sudden change was challenging at first, but over time, the Slovenian star found his rhythm with his new team. With LeBron James mentoring him both on and off the court, Doncic gradually settled into his new role in Los Angeles.

Doncic has now even stated that he wants to be a member of the Lakers for the long run. On the most recent episode of the “Mind the Game” podcast, which Steve Nash and LeBron James co-host, Doncic was a particularly noteworthy guest. On the show, the newest Lakers star was involved in a hilarious moment with James and Nash, when he revealed he was ‘born in 1999.’

I was born in the 90s… 99 it’s so nice.

Luka Doncic said

To which James couldn’t help but laugh.

Oh my god born in 99, it’s crazy, I started getting sleepy when he said ‘born in 99.’

LeBron James responded

Co-host Steve Nash also chimed in, stating,

I was your age at 99 (laughs).

It is fair to say, Doncic has settled into Los Angeles and started to enjoy the city’s distinctive way of life. Doncic further talked about his thoughts on his new residence. He emphasized the attraction of the coastal setting by saying, “This is the first city that has an ocean that I’m playing in.” The lively ambiance and the presence of celebrities courtside have given his experience a new dimension, even with the notorious traffic.

On the sports side of the things, Doncic is an important part of the Lakers’ plans as they look ahead. Even though James is still the team’s best player, Luka Magic is ready to take over after James retires.

Although the Slovenian star seems happy with his new squad, he is due for a contract renewal this summer and will probably think about the Lakers’ long-term plans before committing. It remains to be seen how this situation unfolds in the offseason.

Luka Doncic has kind words for playing alongside the legendary LeBron James

Not everyone gets to share the same court with a star like LeBron James. Well, the newest Lakers star, Luka Doncic, is a lucky one. Not only did he get to share the court with James, he also got invited as a guest on the Mind The Game podcast alongside Steve Nash on the recent segment of the show as mentioned above. The Slovenian spoke about James’ importance on the show, giving him his flowers in the process.

I mean, it’s great. You see, I’ve never played with a guy like this and just being traded to here to L.A., it was different. But, just to play with guys like him, it’s unbelievable. I could learn so many stuff, first of all off the court, all the things he does just to be ready for the game. And obviously, everybody knows what kind of player he is.

Luka Doncic said

James has a reputation for being well-prepared and maintaining his physical health. He has the longest career of any player in NBA history, and his continued enjoying success at the age of 40 is largely due to this work.

He made the All-NBA Second Team this season after averaging 24.4 points, 8.2 assists, and 7.8 rebounds per game. In contrast, Doncic averaged 28.2 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 7.5 assists per game in Los Angeles’s 28 regular-season contests.

Luka Doncic stunned by LeBron James’ dedication to the sport

There were times when the NBA had stars like the late Kobe Bryant and the legendary Michael Jordan to set the tone for the coming generations of the sport. This time around, it’s LeBron James. One of the most notable things Luka Doncic has observed since playing with James, he joked, is how meticulous he is in his preparation for each game.

First of all he shows up like 10 hours before the game, that was really the main thing, like I was like, ‘What?’ I came to the arena and he was already done working out.

Luka Doncic said

James has been able to play in the NBA for 22 years and maintain an all-league level of performance because of his dedication. King James reciprocated the praise by expressing gratitude for Doncic’s skill at controlling the defense, irrespective of who is compelled to protect him.
