However, that has completely changed with Doncic and the Lakers getting close to agreeing on a contract extension. With August 2 being the date, Doncic can sign an extension deal with the Lakers. Interestingly, Doncic can either opt to sign a 4-year deal, getting him $222 million, or he can sign a 3-year deal, giving him more money in the long run, around $369 million with a player option in 2028-29.

Per various reports, Doncic is likely to opt for the 4-year deal with the Lakers, securing his future in Los Angeles. In addition, the Lakers also get their superstar and leader in Doncic, and will look to add further reinforcements around the Slovenian after having already added Deandre Ayton and Marcus Smart this offseason.
