It has been nearly 8 months since the Dallas Mavericks traded Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers. Back then, it caused some headaches for the Texas-based franchise as they did not envision the negative reaction from fans.
From death threats to GM Nico Harrison, to boos for majority owner Patrick Dumont, Mavericks fans did not hold back when they seized opportunities to relay their true feelings.
The ownership attempted to clamp down on those protests by trying to erase messages scribbled near the statue of franchise legend Dirk Nowitzki. They also kicked out fans who were protesting inside the American Airlines Center.
Fans still found ways to show their displeasure, and it continued as the injury-riddled Mavericks stumbled to a disappointing end to their regular season. Fans still believe their season could have been a lot different if the Slovenian was still leading the line.
Hero shooting video game, Overwatch 2, has added Luka Doncic as a playable character to its Season 18 bundle. In their efforts to promote this launch, they hung billboards of the 26-year-old superstar in his Stadium attire at Crypto.com Arena and in Dallas.
The Luka Doncic Overwatch signage in Dallas wasn’t without controversy from the Mavericks side apparently. According to sources, Mavericks ownership made them move the original location of the billboard. They felt that it was too close to the arena. They weren’t happy.

This revelation from the ESPN Radio host indicates that Patrick Dumont and the Mavs’ top brass are still trying to do everything they can to push their former franchise cornerstone away from their premises.
Luka Doncic becomes Grandmaster in Overwatch
Many basketball players love to play video games in their spare time. Luka Doncic also happens to be one of them, and his partnership with Overwatch is not merely a marketing exercise.
When he was with the Dallas Mavericks, the 5-time All-NBA 1st teamer achieved the Top 500 rank. That makes him a Grandmaster in the game. Complex Sports asked him if he had improved since then.
Around that, I think 400. But I haven’t played much this summer, you know, I was seaside, on the beach, so I didn’t play much. I’ll start probably playing when I go back to LA.

Admittedly, the Los Angeles Lakers superstar has had a trying past 8 months. The trade, then the adjustment to starting a new life on the West Coast, building chemistry with his new teammates, all these things did not give him time to play Overwatch.
Lakers GM Rob Pelinka supports Luka Doncic playing at EuroBasket
Luka Doncic had spent the last couple of months getting into peak condition. He took it up as a challenge after all the rumors the Dallas Mavericks spread about him.

Now, he is with the Slovenian national team in Poland as they start their EuroBasket 2025 campaign. Generally, his Lakers would prefer if he rests and conserves his energy, but GM Rob Pelinka and now-minority owner Jeanie Buss travelled to Poland to support Doncic.
It’s been a collaborative partnership with them (Slovenian national team). We have one of our Lakers coaches, Coach Greg St. Jean, added to the staff, just for support. So we’ll continue to support Luka throughout his career.

Pelinka added that the Lakers are going to support Luka Doncic not only throughout his career with the franchise, but also with the Slovenian national team. The combined effort will help their superstar excel in all formats.
