The Los Angeles Lakers led by Luka Doncic seem to have found some rhythm after a slump in form over the last few weeks. After their win over the Dallas Mavericks, the Lakers recorded a convincing 129-118 victory over the Chicago Bulls at the United Center on Monday night. It was their fourth win in their last five games as they look to build some momentum halfway into the campaign.
In the midst of their eight-game road trip, the Lakers have won their third game in their last four away trips. The Lakers improved their record to 28-17 as they sit at fifth place in the Western Conference standings. Meanwhile, the loss saw the Bulls’ four match winning streak come to an end as they dropped to 23-23 and find themselves at the ninth spot in the Eastern Conference standings.
After the arrival of Luka Doncic before the trade deadline last season, the Lakers management and LeBron James have made it clear that the Slovenian guard is the focal point of the team. However, despite the Lakers’ strong start to the campaign, many still do not view them as championship contenders this season due to their lack of defense.
Doncic was at his best on Monday as he scored a game-high 46 points to go along with seven rebounds and 11 assists. He leads the league in scoring and is currently averaging 33.8 points, 7.8 rebounds and 8.8 assists. His extraordinary performances this season earned him his sixth All-Star selection as he continues to be a strong contender for league MVP.
Following the win, Doncic had a few hilarious words directed at head coach JJ Redick in his post-match press conference.
I think I was just being aggressive, see what the defense give you. I said prolly JJ’s gonna be mad I took 25 shots. He’ll tell me to pass more… I’m kidding.

After the loss to cross-town rivals, the Los Angeles Clippers, Redick was dissatisfied with Doncic and the team’s performance on the offensive end due to their lack of passing. Hence, Doncic decided to mock his head coach after giving out 11 assists, despite taking 25 shots.
Luka Doncic breaks franchise record
Doncic put on a scoring masterclass as Luka Magic was on full display against the Bulls. It was his fourth consecutive 30+ point game and his eighth 40-point game of the 2025-26 campaign. With Austin Reaves still ruled out, the Lakers guard has seen his offensive load go up in recent weeks.

It was Doncic’s 65th game for the purple and gold and he made some franchise history. He became the fastest Laker in franchise history to reach 2,000 points. The previous record was held by George Mikan who scored 2,000 points in 72 games with the Minneapolis Lakers.
It has been only a year since Doncic joined the Lakers as he reached the 2,000 points mark faster than teammate LeBron James, Shaquille O’Neal, Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Kobe Bryant. He also joined Bryant as the only player in Lakers history to record 45+ PTS, 10+ AST, and 5+ 3PM in a single game.
JJ Redick picks between Michael Jordan and LeBron James
The debate between Michael Jordan and James as the greatest player of all time has been ongoing for several years now. Former players, NBA fans, and the media have often engaged in this conversation, but there is no correct answer to the question.
Lakers coach JJ Redick was asked to weigh in on the debate and offered his opinion in his press conference.
“I’ve always said that the greatest players in any era would be great in any era. It’s hard to compare eras and play styles. To me, it’s even hard to compare stats. Jordan is one. LeBron is one. Jordan is two. LeBron is two. However you want to do it, to me, they’re the two greatest players of all time.

It doesn’t matter who one chooses between the two, but there is no doubt that the two superstars have etched their names in basketball history forever. Jordan is often regarded as the greatest due to his sheer competitiveness and important role in popularizing basketball. Meanwhile, James is known for his sustained greatness and longevity.
