The Mavericks have lost three consecutive games against the Celtics in the finals.

“It’s not over till it’s over!” Luka Doncic on no team ever coming back from 0-3 deficit in NBA Finals

Luka Doncic is not giving up after 0-3 deficit

After the disappointing performance in the first two games, the Dallas Mavericks came extremely close to winning their first game of the finals. However, a few mistakes in the closing minutes cost the team significantly. In the finals, the team is now 0-3 against the Boston Celtics. Nevertheless, the Mavericks’ main man is not ready to call it quits just yet.

No team in NBA history has ever come back to win the series after being down 0-3. As the Dallas Mavericks are in a similar situation, the team’s chances of winning do not look good. During the press conference after the third loss, Luka Doncic was asked about the league’s history of three losses. The Slovenian showed a positive perspective as he had not lost hope.

It’s not over til it’s over, so we’ve just got to believe. Like I always say it's first to four, we got to stay together. We win together. We lose together.

The Mavericks made a huge comeback in the last quarter after being down as many as 25 points. Overcoming a huge deficit might have raised Doncic’s confidence in the team. The Mavericks have shown great chemistry in the postseason, but the team has failed to put up the same performance in the finals.

Doncic has received close to no help from the team, including Kyrie Irving. But that was not the case in the third game. Irving had more points than Doncic, but the team lost as the Slovenian star was fouled out. Hence, Dallas needs an even better performance to win the next game and stay in the finals.

Like Luka Doncic, Jason Kidd is also not ready to call it quits

Despite the loss, the Mavericks’ efforts late in the game are truly commendable. Without much help from Doncic, the Mavericks overpowered the Celtics for most of the 4th quarter. Looking at the team’s performance, it is difficult to count them out just yet as the team pushes themselves.

During the post-game press conference, Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd gave a similar answer to Doncic’s. The HC is not focusing on the 0-3 deficit as the team aims at winning one game at a time in the finals.

That's what we talked about this evening after the game. Just one possession at a time. Watch film tomorrow and get ready for Friday.

Making a comeback from down 0-3 would certainly be difficult but not impossible. If the Mavericks manage to win four straight, this will become the greatest comeback in history. However, for now, the team and Doncic must focus on the next game to avoid a sweep.
