Doncic was certainly telling the truth as the star went off over the Oklahoma City Thunder by dropping 31 points, ten rebounds and 11 assists. The stats do not do justice to Doncic’s performance as the star was everywhere giving his everything on the court. The Slovenian also contributed defensively during crucial plays while being injured.
The game did come close in the fourth quarter but Dallas was able to secure the win and take the lead. The Mavericks performed as a unit while Shai Gilgeous-Alexander received close to no help from the Thunder’s roster. Most of the Mavericks starters performed in double digits with Doncic leading the pack.
Luka Doncic credited the Mavericks for his monstrous performance
Doncic has been the key player in these playoffs, almost averaging triple-doubles in the postseason. But the Mavericks have also thrived since the final games of the regular season to take the team where it is currently. In game 5, even the bench players made huge contributions for the team to win.
Daniel Gafford and Dereck Lively protected the rim for the most part as the rookie also dropped a double-double. Derrick Jones scored a playoff career-high of 19 points while Kyrie Irving added 12. The team has been showing great chemistry on and off the court resulting in essential wins.
The whole team stepped up. I couldn’t do it without my teammates. Everybody that came on the floor gave 100% effort. We play as a team, we win as a team, we lose as a team. This team is special, man. We’ve only been together for five months, and I’ve been having a lot of fun with this team.
