- Luka Doncic scored 40 points, nine rebounds, and 10 assists in the Lakers' 124-116 win over the Rockets.
- The Lakers extended their winning streak to seven games, improving their record to 44-25.
- Doncic is currently leading the league in scoring, averaging 33.0 points per game this season.
The good turn in form for the Los Angeles Lakers over the last two weeks is largely due to the performances of Luka Doncic. After an impressive win over the Houston Rockets to tie their regular-season head-to-head 1-1 on Monday, the Lakers registered a 124-116 for their second win at the Toyota Center on Wednesday night.
Luka Doncic led the charge for the Lakers with another stellar performance. He recorded another double double for the season as he ended his night with 40 points, nine rebounds and 10 assists in under 38 minutes of action.
Early in the game, a Rockets fan got into it with Doncic, which only fueled the Lakers guard for the rest of the game. When asked about the interaction in his post-match press conference, Doncic had a detailed answer.
I don’t know. Some guy was talking crazy, showing me his… Never mind. Off the camera (on what he replied). It was in English. I made sure he understood it. It was in the first quarter after I missed like the first four shots. Then he started talking, and I heard him. So, it was in the first quarter.
Luka Doncic said after the game

Since being drafted into the league in 2018, Luka Doncic has grown into one of the best players in the NBA. His performances have put him in the MVP conversation for this season.
Currently in his eighth season in the NBA, Doncic has established himself as one of the best trash-talkers in the league and never shies away from a fight. Last week against the Chicago Bulls, Matas Buzelis regretted trash-talking the Slovenian as it ended up backfiring for his team.
The win extended the Lakers’ winning streak to seven games and improved their record to 44-25 as they sit at third place in a highly competitive Western Conference standings. They are currently 1.5 games ahead of fourth place, Minnesota Timberwolves. Meanwhile, the Rockets dropped to fifth in standings with a 41-27 record and are tied on games with the Denver Nuggets.
Luka Doncic spoke trash at the fan after getting a steal
With Luka Doncic playing some of his basketball at the moment, the confidence is sky-high. As the Rockets fan got into it with Doncic early in the game, the 27-year-old did not back down.
During the game, Doncic stole the ball from Kevin Durant and did not waste the opportunity to trash-talk the heckler while dribbling up the court.
Luka got the steal and then immediately started talking to a fan. 🤣🤣

In the end, Doncic recorded another 40-point game for the purple and gold. He moved past the late Kobe Bryant for the most regular-season games with 40+ points, 10+ assists, and 5+ three-pointers in franchise history.
Can Luka Doncic make his way back into the MVP conversation?
While there have been criticisms surrounding Doncic’s lack of defense and constant nagging of officials this season, it has not stopped him from playing at an MVP level. It is no surprise that the Lakers’ sudden turn in form coincides with Doncic’s staggering performances.
Last month, it looked like the Slovenian star was well and out of the MVP conversation after battling it out with reigning MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Nikola Jokic in a three-way battle for majority of the season. While SGA is likely to win the award once again, Doncic seems to be knocking on the door harder than ever with 13 games to go.

He currently leads the league in scoring and is averaging 33.0 points, 7.9 rebounds and 8.5 assists per game this season. Over the last seven games, he is averaging 38.1 points, 9.1 rebounds and eight assists.
With Doncic at the center of the team, the Lakers will be hoping to see his rich form continue as they get ready for the playoffs.
