Haralabos Voulgaris exposed Luka Doncic's sweet tooth
Luka Doncic‘s trade out of nowhere shook the NBA world. Fans and members of the league were curious for the reason behind such a huge decision by the Mavericks’ front office. Keeping the max contract aside, the organization was reportedly worried about the Slovenian’s weight gain during his injury. Feeding to the speculation, Canadian gambler Haralabos Voulgaris spoke about Doncic’s sweet tooth.
Haralabos Voulgaris was the director of quantitative research and development for the Mavericks. Recently, the former director appeared on the ‘My First Million’ podcast where he confirmed Luka Doncic of not following his diet. Voulgaris also revealed that during their first meeting in 2018, the Slovenian was wearing a sauna suit. But after that, the 49-year-old exposed the rookie’s poor habit.
Voulgaris was taken aback by the habit and immediately called it out. The Canadian complained to former principal owner Mark Cuban. But the billionaire shut him down on the spot. But Voulgaris’ goal was eventually achieved as the catering removed the sweet tea and lemonade the next time. However, the gambler was still surprised by Doncic’s strange weight loss journey.

Voulgaris and Doncic’s relationship did not start on a positive note. But the situation worsened over time. During the 6’6″ guard’s debut season, the duo reportedly got into a shouting exchange in between a home game against the Warriors. The gambler also had a fallout with Cuban and was removed from his position in 2021. Voulgaris might still hold some grudges against the 25-year-old.
Haralabos Voulgaris is unhappy with the Mavericks for trading Luka Doncic
When the rumor of Doncic’s weight issues surfaced, many felt the reason was not enough to trade the star. NBA veteran Charles Barkley was one of them as the TNT analyst believed something more was going on behind closed doors. Doncic has changed the trajectory of the Mavericks in the past six years. That is why despite the differences, Voulgaris firmly disagreed with the decision of the trade.
To defend his decision, Mavs general manager Nico Harrison made the ‘defense wins championships’ statement. The take rubbed a ton of people the wrong way including Voulgaris. Considering how the finals turned out last season, the Canadian gambler came at the GM.
This will go down as one of (Probably THE) worst trades in the history of Sports. You just traded away a top 3 player in the prime of his career and your return was a single first and a soon to be 32 year old Anthony Davis. The fact that you threw in a 2nd for good measure is…

Considering Voulgaris’ current relationship with the Mavericks, his take on the trade speaks volumes. Even the most unexpected individuals are against the trade. The Lakers’ journey onwards without Anthony Davis and with Doncic would not be easy.
