After a turbulent December, the pressure was on the likes of Luka Doncic, LeBron James, and the remaining Los Angeles Lakers players to turn their form around. With Austin Reaves out with an injury, the King was going to share the burden of scoring and playmaking. However, in every possession, he is still No. 2 behind the Slovenian assassin.

After losing more games in December, the duo has seemingly led the Lakers by example, which has led to two straight wins against the Memphis Grizzlies.

Next, they went on the road to play the New Orleans Pelicans. Even though the Lakers were playing the second-worst team in the league, taking such games for granted has come back to bite them.

Maybe they realized they took the game too casually as the home team ran away with the lead at halftime and held it until the end of the third quarter.

Then, in the fourth quarter, Luka Doncic and LeBron James took over the game and pulled the team into a comfortable lead. The Pelicans tried to harass him, and so did their fans.

With 2 minutes to go, and the shot clock winding down, Doncic beat a defensive trap to score an unreal off-balance three-pointer. Then, the 26-year-old turned to a Pelicans fan seated courtside and talked trash.

As he walked away as the winner in that round, a hyped-up LeBron James playfully head-butted his younger teammate and also tapped Doncic’s head as a way of appreciating his exceptional skill with the ball.

That was Luka Doncic’s second shot clock-beating three-pointer, as the Lakers raced away in the fourth quarter to win their third straight game with a score of 111-103. He ended the night with 30 points and 10 assists. This was the third time in a row that he had LeBron James scoring close to his number, while also helping out on playmaking and rebounding.

Their chemistry is where the Lakers want it to be, despite the narratives being spread by those looking to cash in on the continuous coverage. At one moment in the game, it seemed as if the understanding between them was as telepathic as a duo could be.

That moment was late in the second quarter when the Pelicans tried to close the door on Doncic. Facing the double team, the five-time All-NBA 1st-teamer saw LeBron James streaking out from behind everyone.

As soon as he saw the King take two steps, the former Real Madrid star threw a lob that his 41-year-old teammate perfectly caught for a two-handed slam.

Luka Doncic and LeBron James’ chemistry will be tested in their next game

When Austin Reaves was ruled out for a month due to injury, some wondered how LeBron James would perform with the Lakers struggling to win games.

So far, his chemistry with Luka Doncic has worked out, with them, along with the rest of the available players, winning three games in a row. However, they were against a Memphis Grizzlies team sans Ja Morant and the lowly Pelicans.

Their next game against the San Antonio Spurs will be a true test of how much they have improved. The last time these two sides met, the Spurs embarrassed the Lakers. Heading into this game, the men in purple and gold will know that they have to keep their winning streak alive if they are to continue holding on to their playoff position.

Another disappointing loss, and not only will they be in danger of sliding down to the play-in spots, but the momentum they have built up will be gone. Neither Doncic nor James can afford that to happen in the tightly contested West.
