Another game, another vintage Luka Doncic performance. Doncic has been on a rampage this season. The Los Angeles Lakers guard is leading the league in scoring and has been playing at an MVP level, currently averaging 35.2 points, 8.8 rebounds and 9.2 assists this season propelling the Lakers to second in the Western Conference standings with a 13-4 record.
Since the return of LeBron James after a 14-game absence, the Lakers have gone 3-0. During his absence, the offence was carried by the new offensive backcourt for the Lakers, Doncic and Austin Reaves. There were questions asked on how the return of James would affect their chemistry as a team but a convincing win against cross-town rivals, Los Angeles Clippers, showed that they are on the right path to contend for the NBA championship.
The trio combined for 99 points as the Lakers notched a 135-118 victory over the Clippers to clinch West Group B of the NBA Cup. Doncic made a season-best seven threes including five three-pointers during his 24-point first quarter. It was his fifth 40-point effort of the campaign.
The 24-point first quarter turned out to be historic as it surpassed the previous record of 23 points for the most points scored in a first quarter by a Lakers player. The earlier record was held jointly by Doncic, Lakers legend Kobe Bryant, and current player Kyle Kuzma.
Doncic’s achievement further solidifies his status as one of the league’s elite players. Host of NBA Today and ESPN reporter Malika Andrews was full of praise for Doncic’s first-quarter performance.
Well, we know Luka loves to cook against the Clippers!

24 points in the first quarter. That is the most points in a quarter by a Laker since Kobe in 2007.
Fans could not keep their calm after Luka Doncic’s historic first-quarter
The Slovenian is a strong candidate to claim his first league MVP award this season as he battles it out against frontrunners, three-time MVP Nikola Jokic and reigning MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
Everyone knows that Doncic loves to score against the Clippers, especially during his time with the Dallas Mavericks and Tuesday night was no different. Here are some of the reactions:

That would have been 30 in one quarter, if Luka was in shape.

Luka Doncic takes it out on the NBA Cup court being too slippery
While Doncic was the star of the show, he was not too pleased with the special NBA Cup court at the Crypto.com arena. For the NBA Cup, all courts are dressed in a special branding to be more visually appealing.

The 26-year-old raised concerns, calling them “slippery and dangerous” after noticing multiple players, including himself, losing footing. During the post-match press conference, Doncic spoke about the condition of the court:
Adjust the courts, please. It’s just slippery. It’s dangerous. I slipped a lot of times, you could see a lot of players slip and that’s dangerous.

Despite the slippery conditions, Doncic put on a show for the Lakers nation and nearly recorded a triple-double, missing it by only one rebound.
