Doncic is exactly contradictory to that. The 25-year-old thrives on offense and is an incredible ball-handler but lacks on the opposite side of the court. Hence, McCants is not sure whether the team will adjust to their newest star.

The Mavericks also have Kyrie Irving and Klay Thompson, but Doncic was in charge of scoring. The two players are certainly not an option for each other considering their conflicting skills. McCants is worried about the Slovenian’s impact on the Lakers’ roster. The transition from LeBron-AD to LeBron-Luka will take some time.

LeBron James and Anthony Davis won their first championship together in 2020 for the Lakers. The duo was certainly building something in LA and had big goals for the future as well. That’s why the sudden trade led to some serious questions. As James has a reputation for his influence on the front office, Rashad McCants believes the leading scorer was responsible for Luka Doncic as Davis’ replacement.
Last season, Doncic took the Mavericks to the Finals after 13 years. Adding the star could help James get his fifth ring. From hiring his podcast partner JJ Redick to drafting Bronny James, multiple decisions by the Lakers seem to have been made for the ‘King’. Hence, McCants claimed that Davis’ departure was the 40-year-old’s doing. McCants’ perspective seems unlikely but James has already clarified the claim. The four-time champion called out national media for declaring a false troublesome relationship with Davis. The Lakers veteran was also upset by his teammate’s exit as he posted a tribute on his Instagram story. But the question of the reason behind the blockbuster trade of Doncic still remains unanswered.
