Luka Modric breaks silence on people comparing Euro’s level to that of the World Cup
Reiterating what Messi had said, the veteran midfielder disagreed with Mbappe's claim.

Croatian great Luka Modric weighed into the ongoing Euro-World Cup debate, sharing his own thoughts on it. The 38-year old midfielder disagreed with his Real Madrid teammate Kylian Mbappe, favoring the World Cup over the Euros.
Frenchman Kylian Mbappe in a recent interview had stated that playing the Euros was more difficult in comparison to the FIFA World Cup. This view was refuted by Argentine star Lionel Messi, in another interview that the 36-year old had with ESPN Argentina. Modric, having led Croatia to second and third-place finishes in the 2018 and 2022 World Cups, also shared his thoughts on this debate in an interview on ESPN.
A veteran of every major tournament his country has qualified for since 2006, the Croatian is well-placed to contribute to the Euros versus World Cup debate. Reiterating what Messi had said, the veteran midfielder disagreed with Mbappe’s claim. He emphasized that the FIFA World Cup brings together the best teams from around the world, arguing that its diverse competition makes it a more challenging tournament than the Euros.

Meanwhile, Modric will be leading the Croatian side for the 2024 European Championships in an aim to win the trophy for the first time. However, his team faces a challenging group stage, contending with heavyweights Spain and Italy, as well as Albania.
Luka Modric to reveal his future at Real Madrid soon, following the 2024 Euros
Luka Modric has confirmed that he would disclose his future plans with Real Madrid very soon, turning his focus solely towards UEFA Euros. Sources although indicate that the 38-year old could renew his contract further with the Los Blancos for another year.
The 2018 Ballon d’Or winner’s contract expires at the end of this month and there are multiple speculations over his future. Modric, in an interview with ESPN, indicated that his future with Real Madrid would be revealed soon. Having secured his sixth Champions League title with the club earlier in June, he stated that he is currently focused on his duties with Croatia.
Additionally, he mentioned that given his age, he would not plan too far ahead. He acknowledged that he is nearing the end of his career, uncertain over how much longer he would continue playing.
