Real Madrid cruised to a comfortable 5-0 victory over Spanish fourth-tier side Deportiva Minera in a third round Cope del Rey encounter. Veteran Croatian star Luka Modric, who captained the side, etched his name on the score-sheet with his first ever Copa del Rey goal.
Manager Carlo Ancelotti will have been pleased with Los Blancos’ dominant display against CD Minera. The Italian manager also got an opportunity to rest most of his senior players. Academy graduates Diego Aguando, Raul Asencio and Lorenzo Aguando made it to the starting XI.
Federico Valverde continued with his brilliant scoring form to score an early 5th minute opener. It was followed by Eduardo Camavinga’s 13th minute header. Arda Guler struck twice, in the 28th and the 88th minute of the match.
The 39-year-old Luka Modric partnered with Brahim Diaz to score Real Madrid’s fourth goal of the match. He showed off his talent despite his age. Interestingly, it was the Croatian midfielder’s first Cope del Rey goal for Los Blancos in his 13th season with the club.

The historic goal also marked the midfielder’s 41st career goal for the club. Moreover, it comes in what could be his penultimate season for the 15-time UCL winners. He has made more than 560 appearances for the club, winning a record 28 titles.
Meanwhile, it is Luka Modric’s second major achievement this week. The ex-Tottenham player most recently broke the record for being Real Madrid’s oldest goal-scorer. He scored a goal against Valencia most recently, at the age of 39 years 116 days, surpassing Ferenc Puskas.
Carlo Ancelotti provides honest opinion on Real Madrid starlet Endrick after poor display in 5-0 Copa del Rey win
Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti delivered an honest opinion on club youngster Endrick. This came after following his poor display in a 5-0 Copa del Rey win. The Brazilian forward failed to score a goal or even assist one, despite being given a starting role against CD Minera.
Endrick has failed to live up to expectations in his first season in Europe. In 16 appearances this season, the 18-year-old has scored just twice, raising questions over his form. Carlo Ancelotti, however, in defense of the youngster, praised him for his display against Minera.
Meanwhile, there have been rumors over the 18-year-old’s immediate future at Real Madrid. Endrick has been linked with a loan move away from the club in the January transfer window. It comes at a time when the forward is coping with fierce competition in Madrid. Only time will tell what happens to the youngster in the short-term.
