Real Madrid fans may have seen the last of the iconic Toni Kroos – Luka Modric duo at the Santiago Bernabeu. However, one club legend from the midfield partnership has opted to stay at the club atleast for one more season. Legendary midfielder Modric recently signed a contract extension with the Los Blancos almost a week after midfield partner Kroos played his last game for the club.
The six-time Champions League winner is undoubtedly one of the most classy and technically gifted players in the game. While the crowd at Santiago Bernabeu is used to seeing his brilliance on display week in week out, it was initially rumored that Modric was also set to depart alongside Kroos.
However, official reports state that the Croatian has signed a one-year deal with the club, which keeps him at Madrid till June 2025. The 38-year-old is the only active men’s player in Europe and the most decorated Real Madrid player of all time with 26 trophies!
It is shocking to note that he had zero titles to his name when he left Tottenham Hotspur at the age of 27!

No matter what club one supports, to watch Luka Modric play football is to witness poetry in motion. The veteran midfielder is one of, if not the most successful in Europe, having 6 UCL’s and several other domestic championships to his name. As news of his one-year extension became public, fans have reacted in a way that puts a smile on everyone’s face.
A fan commented that he was undoubtedly one of the all-time greats. Others breathed a sigh of relief as they expressed their joy on being able to witness another year of his magic. However, no footballer is immune to comparisons, and one fan was quick to claim that he has surpassed Xavi Hernandez‘s legacy. In response, a fan argued that Modric was nowhere close to the Spaniard.
With the one-year extension official, many concluded that Modric’s plan was definitely to retire in Spain and not go to Saudi Arabia for the ‘money’.
