Football can be a cruel sport. However, in the rarest of moments, like the one after Luton Town’s loss to West Ham give it the name of the ‘beautiful game’.

The Hatters suffered a 3-1 loss to West Ham in their fight to survive relegation. While Rob Edwards and co. can still mathematically secure survival, a realistic understanding is that their Premier League journey has already ended.

With 26 points from 37 games, Luton Town are 3 points behind the nearest safe spot, which happens to be where Nottingham Forest sit. Forest have a better goal deficit in comparison to Luton Town and achieving survival at their cost won’t be an easy task. If Luton are to remain in the Premier League next season, they would need to win their final game against Fulham.

The check boxes don’t end there – a 12-goal deficit needs to be overturned if Luton have to finish above Forest. As the Luton crowd thanked their players and staff for the valiant season they put up, manager Rob Edwards appeared to be in tears.

Cameras captured the boss taking in the entirety of the stadium, filled with signboards that read ‘we are proud of you‘.

West Ham give ‘perfect’ farewell to David Moyes as they shatter Luton Town’s hopes of survival

Like two sides of a coin, West Ham United and Luton Town shared heartbreak and jubilation hand in hand. As West Ham’s 3-1 victory over the Hatters pretty much took away their hopes of survival, David Moyes enjoyed one last home win as manager. The club is barely recognizable from the time he took over as head coach back in 2019.

As West Ham prepared to host their final home game of the season, Moyes can rest well knowing that he left them to three European campaigns while also handing them their first major trophy in 43 years, leading them to success even after shipping off Declan Rice to Arsenal.

In his final home game, Moyes’ men took on a Luton side struggling for survival. The game sprung to life with Albert Lokonga‘s bullet header in the 6th minute.

While the visitors slowly began to believe that they might just pull off a win, a comeback led by James Ward-Prowse sunk the hearts of the traveling contingent. His powerful strike from a loose ball at the edge of the box evaded everyone and went into the back of the net.

This was followed by Tomas Soucek‘s volley nine minutes later to make it 2-1. Mohammed Kudus then set up George Earthy to kill of the game in the 76th minute.
