Hansi Flick’s Bayern went a step closer to complete a monumental treble after defeating Lyon by 3-0 in the second semifinal of the Champions league. Two goals from Gnabry and a late one from Lewandowski ensures their contest with Paris Saint Germain in the Champions league final.

Lyon started brightly taking advantage of Bayern’s high-line. Thiago was forced to play an error pass amidst the press with Caqueret intercepting it and putting Memphis Depay clean through. The Dutch forawrd was able to beat Neuer but couldn’t maintain his composure to rest the ball into the empty net. Rudi Garcia’s men continued to cause havoc with his two forwards continuously troubling Alaba and Boateng.

Toko Ekambi then hit the post with Neuer on the floor and no obstacle in front of him after Goretzka’s scuffed shot was kept out by Anthony Lopes. Lyon continued to threaten with their tactics but soon got the blow from a quality team. It took just one classy combination for Bayern to take the lead. Flashy winger, Serge Gnabry scored a robben-esque goal coming out from the right and smacking a left booted effort past lopes receiving a searching ball from Kimmich.

They got on the scoresheet again when Gnabry capitalize from a misclearance to set Perisic in whose low driven cross got stuck under oncoming Lewandowski’s feet. But the forward managed to get his shot away that rebounded off Lopes and Gnabry to score in the empty net. Therefore, Bayern were able to cut off Lyon’s press and play their normal yet destructive gameplay.

The story of the second half was for Lyon if they can crawl back into the game which didn’t materialized. Bayern began on front foot with Croatian Perisic getting close to score the team’s third. Couple of chances fell to the ‘giant-killers’ next. Nueur even had to make a crucial save in this period. Following a mistake from the substitute, Nicolas Sule Aouar drove a low pass for Ekambi’s run but he was once again denied his goal.
However, that was that from the remarkable French side. Lewandowski then wholly and truly confirmed their status in their final with PSG by rising high to meet Kimmich’s free-kick and converting his 55th goal of the season in all competitions.
