Sonya Deville returned to WWE two weeks ago and partnered up with Shayna Baszler and Zoey Stark. The three of them have formed a faction to be reckoned with and dominate Raw each week. However, things could have gone very badly for the returning superstar had it not been for her opponent, Lyra Valkyria, protecting her from injury.

The latest episode of Raw featured Deville taking on Valkyria in a singles match. During the match, the former Women’s Tag Team Champion went for her new finishing move: an inverted DDT called the Deville’s Advocate. However, the 27-year-old was able to counter. She lifted up her opponent with a gut wrench and went for a powerbomb.

Sonya Deville continued to hold her opponent’s waist with her arm even when she was lifted into the air. This resulted in the former NXT Women’s Champion audibly shouting at her to let go. The 30-year-old heard her, let go of her arm, and ate a powerbomb from the Irishwoman. Valkyria delivering the move without this precaution would have likely led to her opponent awkwardly landing. This could have potentially caused a career-ending injury.

Many fans pointed out the irony of the situation. The new blood, Valkyria, had to audibly guide Deville through this moment, someone who has been on the main roster since 2017. Regardless, such mistakes are common in professional wrestling, and no one should be blamed for such a mishap.

Later in the match, Stark and Baszler ran some interference for their stablemate. Due to this distraction, Deville landed her finisher and picked up the victory with a pinfall. The group has been highly dominant over the past two weeks, as evident by their brutal beatdown of Zelina Vega on last week’s show.

Former WWE head writer Vince Russo says that he will retire from wrestling if Lyra Valkyria gets over

Former WWE head writer Vince Russo doesn’t seem to be the biggest fan of Lyra Valkyria since her main roster debut. He has little belief in the female superstar that he is willing to put his wrestling career on the line for a specific condition.

Speaking on Wrestle Binge, Russo called the female superstar “Lyra Velcro” and said that he had previously stated that he would retire from professional wrestling if she was able to get over on the main roster. Some fans told him that she had finally gotten over. Hence, he should stick to his word and retire from the business. However, the 63-year-old believed that the meaning of being over was lost in the modern wrestling world.

This statement was highly odd, coming from the former WWE head writer. Valkyria has been pushed heavily by the Stamford-based promotion since her debut on the main roster. She made it to the finals of the Queen of the Ring tournament and had a PLE match, all within 30 days of appearing on the red brand. Furthermore, she consistently gets TV time on Raw and seems to be well-liked by the fans.
