In Short
  • Mac Jones participated in a viral snowball fight in NYC that escalated, prompting police intervention.
  • NYPD arrested Gusmane Coulibaly for assaulting officers during the snowball fight incident.
  • Jones, now a backup QB for the 49ers, is attracting trade interest from teams like the Atlanta Falcons.

Mac Jones and a group of New Yorkers enjoyed the snow by hurling snowballs at one another until things got out of control and cops had to step in to calm things down. Although Jones managed to leave the scene, not everyone was so lucky.

A video posted by Jones on his TikTok channel documented the entire shuffle that went down in the Big Apple. Jones and his acquaintances collected snow to make balls before launching them at the large gathering in front of them.

The fun and laughter evaporated when the agitated crowd threw a few balls at a police convoy that was passing by. TMZ revealed that some of the officers took some snowballs to their faces, compelling them to take action.

According to NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch, her team arrested a frequent troublemaker named Gusmane Coulibaly. The 27-year-old was nabbed on the basis of “assaulting officers earlier this week in Washington Square Park.” Coulibaly was caught.by the police a couple weeks earlier for an alleged attempted robbery in the transit system.

Kyle Shanahan makes his stance clear on Mac Jones’ trade rumors

The 49ers signed Jones to a two-year deal as Brock Purdy‘s backup. But his number arrived earlier than most anticipated. In the season’s opener, Purdy suffered injuries to his left shoulder and toe, with the latter being the greater issue of the two. The Niners ruled him out ahead of the Week 2 game against the Saints.

Jones stepped in and threw for 279 yards and 3 touchdowns to secure a 26-21 victory at Death Valley. Purdy returned to the starting lineup for the week 4 fixture. However, the Pro Bowler re-aggravated his injuries, forcing the Niners to sideline him. Jones held down the fort and won four more games. He finished 5-3 as the Niners QB1 until Purdy’s return in Week 11.

In 11 appearances, Jones threw for 2151 yards, 13 touchdowns, and 6 interceptions and completed 69.6% of his passes. Even though he is still under contract for one more year, Jones is expected to attract interest from QB-needy teams across the league. Per Henry McKenna of FOX Sports, one of those teams could turn out to be the Atlanta Falcons.

Kevin Stefanski is a really good fit for Jones. And the Falcons’ offense has enough weapons to support the QB [Michael Penix Jr.], who—everyone can plainly see—isn’t a world-beater.

McKenna wrote in his report

McKenna noted that Jones does not have a no-trade clause in his contract. But he suspects that the 49ers will help him find a decent fit for his skill-set. That said, head coach Kyle Shanahan made it clear that they are ready to listen to offers, but Jones won’t come cheap.

As any player on our team, including myself and John [Lynch], you always listen to people and trade offers, but we’re also not into getting rid of good players. So, I’d be very surprised if Mac wasn’t around us next year.

Kyle Shanahan told reporters at his end-of-season press conference in Santa Clara in January

Jones is certainly a luxury backup for the Niners. Fortunately, they aren’t spending like the Falcons to keep him happy. However, if a team does come with a juicy offer, it’s better for the Niners to part ways with the former Patriot and Jaguar.
