Mac McClung's surprising earnings after Dunk Contest

Mac McClung might be the only person keeping the dunk contest alive at the All-Star weekend. The Orlando Magic G-League player and the reigning G-League MVP put on a show on All-Star Saturday. He became the first player to 3-peat in the dunk contest. With this victory, McClung once again took home the $100k prize money, which led to the discovery of an interesting statistic.

With his dominant display at the All-Star Weekend, Mac McClung’s $100k prize pushes his total dunk contest winnings to over $300k. It’s a staggering amount of money, considering his reported NBA career earnings are just a fraction of that amount. According to a stat by NBA statistician Keerthika Uthayakumar, his career earnings from standard NBA contracts total just $132,101.

While the dunk contest remains financially rewarding for McClung, his actual salary situation in the NBA tells a different story. That number, however, doesn’t include his earnings from two-way deals, which pay players a fixed percentage of the league’s minimum salary.

Given his stints with the Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Lakers, Philadelphia 76ers, and now Magic, McClung has likely earned around $1.5 million in NBA salary across multiple seasons. Still, the fact that he’s made over $300,000 just from dunk contests is no small feat.

The 6’2″ guard put on yet another electrifying performance, solidifying himself as one of the greatest dunkers the event has ever seen. Although Mac McClung will end up back in the G-League after the All-Star break, it may be worth a shot for other teams to take a shot at an athletic freak who has proven himself in the G-League.

Mac McClung makes charitable donation despite lackluster NBA earnings

While his earnings may pale in comparison to NBA superstars, Mac McClung still found a way to showcase some of the generosity that has become a trademark of All-Star Weekend. Following his historic third straight victory at the Dunk Contest, McClung donated the car he used in his second-round dunk to a foundation in his hometown of Gate City, Virginia, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.

The 6’2″ guard put on yet another electrifying performance, solidifying himself as one of the greatest dunkers the event has ever seen. With perfect 50s across the board in every round, McClung showed off some brand new dunks in this year’s contest, including his standout opening dunk jumping over a car filled with his teammates.

As he returns to the Osceola Magic next week, the guard is continuing to make a case for why he should be playing on the NBA hardwood. The reigning G League MVP has been productive for the Osceola Magic, averaging 17.4 points, 4.7 assists, and 3.7 rebounds this season. It remains to be seen if he ever gets consistent opportunities in the NBA.
