Madison Keys recently gave her take on Aryna Sabalenka‘s comments about Coco Gauff after losing the Roland Garros finals. With the loss at Roland Garros, the Belarusian has lost three finals this year. She also lost the previous Grand Slam of the season at the Australian Open. It was another heartbreaking moment for Sabalenka, and that pain and frustration was evident in her comments.

After the loss, Sabalenka went on to make bizarre comments about the wind hindering play and Iga Swiatek being able to defeat Gauff had she made it to the finals and attributed Gauff’s victory to the errors made by the opponent.

However, the World No. 1 later apologized for her comments via. an Instagram story and gave Gauff due credit and appreciation. In a press conference in London, Keys, who has also experienced a loss in a Grand Slam final went on to say:

To be honest, I don’t think I would really care, especially if I had won, no matter what they say or think. It’s tough. It’s a complicated emotional moment, and I think sometimes emotions bring everything out of people. Things are said in a way and not necessarily meant seriously…Sometimes we say things we later regret. Again, I don’t think Coco would care.

Keys had handed Sabalenka her first Grand Slam final defeat of the season. The American stunned the World No. 1 in the Australian Open finals to deny her an elusive three-peat in Melbourne. With this victory, Keys clinched her maiden Grand Slam title.

After her Roland Garros defeat, Sabalenka will commence her grass season with the German Open. Keys will also compete in the German Open.

Madison Keys was stunned by qualifier Tatjana Maria in the semifinals of the Queen’s Club Championships

The 30-year-old’s campaign at Queen’s ended at the semifinals after facing defeat to qualifier Tatjana Maria, who triumphed with a scoreline of 6-3, 7-6(3). Maria had stunned former Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina in the quarterfinals and is now into her second WTA 500 final of her career. Following her defeat, Keys said:

It was a very quick transition. I played on Wednesday on clay, traveled on Thursday, and was playing on grass on Friday. It’s probably the fastest I’ve changed surfaces in a long time, but I’m very happy to be at Queen’s. When it appeared on the calendar, it was a place I had always wanted to play…I knew it was going to happen one way or another, so I thought it would be best to just get on with it.

It marks a dream run for the 37-year-old mother of two. She is the oldest woman to reach the final of a WTA event in history. Maria had previously shown her prowess on grass courts when she reached the semifinals at Wimbledon 2022, where she lost to Ons Jabeur.
